It's really important that you don't miss any doses. Effexor has a very short half-life which means if you miss a dose, you will immediately feel some withdrawal symptoms -- which is no fun. If you ever decide to stop taking it, you need to taper off very slowly.
Effexor works for some people -- and not for others -- like every other depression drug out there.
I had a tough time with all the side effects, so Effexor was the last in a long list of drugs that I took for my depression. I'm trying to go without ADs now -- although I have been research St. John's Wort -- and staring at the bottle for a week -- I may give it a try if I get my nerve up.
Good luck to you. Just pay attention to your body and how you are feeling -- and don't miss any more doses.

Effexor XR made me tired as well, it does for a lot of people.
Many people find the side-effects of all these types of drugs tend to subside a little after the first week or two. For me, I had urinary problems, headaches, sleepiness, and a host of other little issues that weakened over time.
Here's an example: I am going off of Effexor XR now, after being on it since February. I've slowly tapered down the dosage to almost nothing to introduce a different drug (Celexa). I remember Effexor XR made me really tired at first then it wasn't near as bad after some time. Now that I have started the Celexa the other day, I am sleeping 16 hours a day again.
Remember to take it every day at the same time, within an hour or two (at most) and you probably won't experience the other problems you mentioned.

Hey- i've been taking effexor extended release for about 2 and a half years now. I want to get off of it- but because of having to taper off so slowly and being in school- i didn't want to. I recently just got my tonsils removed and i think my sleep apnea contributed to my depression so hopefully once i'm recovered i'll be able to come down a little bit more. but if i don't take my meds on time- i definately become very sick- dizzy- feelings of intense anger- nausea... you are not alone- i don't get tired as much anymore- but i was tired all the time so i don't know if it mattered.... anyway
let me know if you hjave questions- i would just recommend taking it at the same time everyday and keeping it with you always (i usually carry my pills with me to be sure)
