I always heard brown were better too, but never knew why, so decided to look it up. This is all I could find:
You will find both white and brown eggs in the supermarket. What's the difference? White eggs are white, and brown eggs are brown, but that's it. One is no better for you than the other. They simply come from two different breeds of chickens. Brown eggs, however, are more expensive because the chickens that lay them eat more than those that lay white eggs.
Maybe someone else has a better explanation..... :D
Off to bed with this ole body.....

Yes, it is true. There is no difference between brown and white eggs nutritionally, provided the birds are raised in the same way. That there is a difference is an old wives tale that has been floating around forever-I even heard it as a kid, and you KNOW that was a long time ago!
In my local store, however, there is a difference in the brown eggs and the white eggs for sale. It just so happens that the only brown eggs sold there are from "cage free, fed no antibiotics, fed an all-vegetarian diet" birds. But that has nothing to do with the color of the eggs. You'd have to read the labeling to see if there are any differences in the brown eggs sold in your area.

Hi Uff....As far as the eggs, I just buy the 6 pks. and most of the time they are white. Don't eat that many eggs around here, so they will do. To me eggs are eggs, I have enough stuff to read, and getting WAY too old to care sometimes..... :D
Hope ya have a great holiday....

It's true there isn't any difference between the white egg and the brown but here is some info about what is in the egg........a nutrient called Betaine and it has the capablility to reduce the levels of homocysteine. You put that together with Folic acid, B-6 and B-12 and you have a good working team. The egg has everything needed to produce a live healthy chick and I think it is a good protein. I don't however O-D on them but a few a week is fine. :)

Well, I have my 3 hard boiled eggs each week, and once in awhile will sneak in an egg salad sandwich, but very rarely. Like I told Stumper, I refuse to give up everything I like, so we have added more fruits and veggies, and cut back on red meats. At my age, I deserve a treat once in awhile, life is WAY too short..... :)
Thanx for the info, and have a good one....

Our supermarket even sells BLUE eggs from some weird breed of hen - and guess what, they charge more for them of course!!!
JJ - you sound as though you are really worried re your age. Are you really ancient? I'm sure many of us on this board are 50 plus. I am, for one. How old are you?

Blue eggs??? Holy moly, only time I see that is at Easter when U color them.
No tajmahal, last thing I worry about is my age, but I do love to make jokes about it. If I do something wrong, or make a mistake, I always kid around and tell folks to fogive me, I'M OLD.... :D Sorry if it sounded like I was worried, must be my silly sense of humor.
Have a great day, and CYL.....

A note about eggs.
As I stated in other posting I personally do not believe eggs are evil. For that matter I think they have numbers of benefits.
In my Alternative medicine book (yes I have one my mom gave me!) It is about 4" thick!...It was mentioned that a high protein diet has been used to treat alcoholics in many cases. I put this to test on my 17 year old son who has OCD and had an INSATIABLE desire for sweets which complicated his condition. When I saay insatiable I mean INSATIABLE as he would devour sweets and get angry if he did not have it. If I attempted to take it away he would throw literal fits of anger.
I often come home from work wanting a little sweets myself at which I would most often find the cupboard bare!
TWO EGGS every morning fixed the problem. And I mean FIXED it. After about a week he never even wanted sweets or very very little. They destroyed his desire for sweets. Consequently he was eating more of the good things and it IMPROVED his OCD condition AND it helped his depression immmensely!
So, alernative medicine has its place IF it works. I am still so skeptical of vitamins and supplements though, but to each his own.

Might as well bring up this subject again. The question was brought up about Brown eggs and why they are considered better than white eggs.
Well...Mens health magazine that I saw today at the library supported the "pasture" eggs or brown eggs over white eggs. It said that brown eggs contianed (GET THIS) HIGH amounts of Omega 3 over the whites and Higher amounts of B vites!
This is what their testing was showing. This could explain why eggs also raise HDL in conjuction with LDL. I am just not convinced they are so bad. If anything it may be the large amounts of butter or Bacon greese we might use to make them.

Article I found on eggs:
**************************************** **
Brown eggs versus white eggs
The breed of the hen determines the color of the egg's shell. Since most consumers prefer white eggs, most producers raise White Leghorn hens, which produce eggs with a white shell. Consumers in New England prefer brown-shelled eggs, so most producers their raise breeds such as the Rhode Island Red that produce brown shells. Shell color has nothing to do with egg quality, flavor or nutritional value. The price of brown eggs is usually a bit higher than the price of white eggs because the brown-shell-producing breeds are larger birds with bigger appetites for chicken feed.
Although eggs are a significant source of dietary cholesterol, they need not be excluded from a healthful diet. The impact of dietary cholesterol on blood cholesterol is relatively small compared with the effects of saturated fat and total calories. Most healthy people don't need to rigorously restrict their intake of eggs. Except for individuals with high blood cholesterol levels who are sensitive to changes in dietary cholesterol intake, the moderate consumption of eggs is appropriate.

Stumper, I think you are confusing two things - eggs from pasture-fed birds and eggs from birds which lay brown eggs. Yes, eggs from pasture-fed birds are more nutritious than birds caged and fed only mash. But it doesn't matter what color the shells of the eggs are. Either birds laying brown-shell eggs or those laying white-shell eggs could be allowed to grass-feed. And all birds laying brown-shell eggs are not allowed to pasture-feed.

I like to alternate buying brown and white eggs, so I know which ones to eat first in the fridge. I know there's no nutritional value, but I will admit to be psycologically convinced that the brown ones have a better flavor or more flavor than the white. I've also noticed that the yolk is slightly darker in the brown ones. My mom always got them as a treat for us.

When I was in weight training I used to drink alot of eggnog after a workout. What you would do is work out very hard first, in numbers of sets until your muscles were tight, then drink an eggnog after. I tell you the truth you would see your muscles transform, almost like the protein went directly to the muscle. Any fat would disappear under such circumstances if done on a steady basis.
