Do they work? I've read about Bilberry, fish oil and others. Do they help your vision if taken?

I'm trying fish oil and it seems to help, along with depression. The main thing is to eat better and anyway possible take vitamins A and B especially. It's never too late to watch out for you health/vision.

Hi Cher, Don't forget the lutein too! I've recently been reading about eyebright (herbal)too, but have never actually tried any. That is other than flaxseed oil and vitamins. I'm always willing to try herbs. but do what my eye doc advises first. Been thru too much to give it all up to herbal remedies. Always a good idea to check with the dr before taking herbs, as some don't mix well with meds.

The study called AREDS found that vitamin A, E and zinc in certain proportions slowed down macular degeneration, so vitamins do work. I tried eyebright for a year with no results.

I was looking at the omega 3 fish oil in the drugstore today and the pharmacjst told me to check with my doctor before taking any supplements. They can interact with other meds. you are taking and some can be dangerous.
I'm just not a pill taker anyway so I'm going to ask first. My sister, who is a pharmecudical rep. says those pills are just like eating a couple of pieces of salmon a day, nothing more. But what if she is wrong?
I'm going to just eat more fish and also more veggies (spinach has lutein) and fruit for the anti-toxins.

Ok, then look up what kinds of fish you should be eating. Some are higher in toxins than others and some have more of the desirable fish oil. I think cold water fish are better. When it comes to tuna, the smaller varieties are better than albacore because they haven't had as much time to accumulate toxins.

Torre is right Cher...fish do accumulate toxins in their bodies...so definetly do some research. I know mercury is an issue with fish. And the ocean-caught cold water fish are better than farm-raised fish for the O-3 oils, but they are pricey. That's not to say the farm raised don't have the O-3, they do. Just the ones caught in the cold, open ocean have more. Personally, I love salmon, but the pill form is way more cost-effective.
