View Full Version : CBC test -- Low WBC

My recent CBC test revealed the following:

White Blood Count of 4.1 ("Normal" Range according to the lab is 4.1 - 11.3)
Neutrophils - 52.8% (Lab Range: 40-78)
Lymphocytes - 31.5% (Lab Range: 15-50)
Monocytes- 10.3% (Lab Range: 0-13)
Eosinolphis- 4.3% (Lab Range: 0-5)
Basophils - 1.1% (Lab Range: 0-5)
Red Blood Cell -- 5.08 (Lab Range: 4.2 - 5.5)

My doctor didn't even bring it up and just said everything came out "great". So when I asked him about the WBC, he said that, although its low, its still normal. I've done a tad bit of research which would seem to indicate that there are in fact people with consistently low WBC's but that the real cause for concern is if one of the differentiators fell well outside of the range. Regardless, I have been feeling very tired recently with stomach cramps so that's the only reason I'm a bit concerned. I've also been under a significant amount of stress due to a job change which might add to it. Any thoughts? Thanks!

According to your blood test result, I think you don't have any blood disorder.

Mine has been low the last couple of times as well. My latest WBC was at 4.0 and the range for this was 4.8-10.8 but my dr says I am fine so I sure hope he knows what he is talking about. My biggest problem is getting on the internet and reading about cancer and AIDS and I automatically think I have it even though my dr says I am fine.

Reading the drivel on most internet sites isn't a good idea. If you believed half the stuff on some of those sites you'd have yourself dead and buried in a matter of minutes.

Three things spring to mind,

1) Too much information is a very bad thing in the wrong hands, leave it to the experts

2) An internet site won't tell you that there's nothing wrong with you in the first place, it will only tell you about ailments.

3) Any idiot can have a website.

Agree with BlackJAC.

However, reading from the internet is also useful as long as you also believe on your doctor.

I trapped my self in anxiety everytime I read about malignant diseases from internet, but I also always try to consult to the doctor, especially specialist such as internist, hematologist, or even oncologist. When they said: you are healthy, I try to convince myself that I am healthy.

Good luck all.
