Cold turkey is "doable" but if you are that scared, you might need to ease into it. It doesn't work for everyone but Ultram helps me with the w/d symptoms - sweats are minimal, no restless legs etc - it's really a lifesaver. But there are those that end up getting addicted to Ultram so you have to be careful. It doesn't give any kind of high so I'm not sure how you get addicted but it will definitely help with the pain & depression.
GOOD LUCK!

Ultram, doesn't seem to have the High feeling like the vikes or lortabs do, but I have read, it has some REAL bad withdrawls, seizures, heart palps and the withdrawls are supposed to be worse, try looking up some archived posts before you try that route, also look up the detox recipe, I discovered that geritol has all the metals needed in the vitamins and is fairly cheap, I started taking it and all the other things the recipe listed, about a week or so before I started my cold turkey, dont know if it did anything major, but a bit over 2 weeks later, I feel like me again, those horrid sore aching legs and wanting to rip your skin off feelings have totally left me and I have no depression, then again, I have never suffered from depression, so I have no idea if thats the cause of that...
Good luck, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, just hang in there, there will be days you feel like death would be a welcome change, but it does work and you will be amazed at how much you missed out on, while you thought you had a handle on life...'

It helps to have someone by your side to "comfort" you. You need some type of blood pressure med (i.e. clonodine). Clonodine helps with that terrible skin crawling feeling you get when you are going through w/d's. You will also need something to help you sleep. Clonopine wafers worked for me. It is part of the "pam" family called clonazopam. Talk to your dr. about it! Good luck! (you will also need all of the immodium you can get).

You can do this....you sound exactly as I did before going off the meds. I was constantly on here asking for others stories/experiences. What I did, instead of going cold turkey, was hospitalized, and very quickly weened off the drug. I had a terrible experience with that. For example, day one 1 perc every 4 hours, day two 1 perc every 6 hours, day three 1 perc every 8 hours, day four nothing.....weirdest thing is all they gave me was a clonidine patch (which did help) but that was it. I am going to be honest it was the worst experience of my life because I was givin nothing for the anxiety, nothing for sleep, not even anything from tylenol for leg cramps to immodium for the terrible diarrhea.
I know that story wasnt exactly a CHEER UP story...but it gets better. After leaving the hospital I came home to my family who is very loving and supportive, I found a different doctor, who is much more understanding and not so "tough love" about getting me well again. I am now taking zoloft which is too soon to see results and occasionally xanax to help with the terrible anxiety I have been getting.
I am proud to say I am 2 weeks and 4 days clean of oxycodone and I am feeling SOOOO much better. The first week of withdrawals I felt like I would never feel normal again...and I do. And I am telling you right now IT CAN BE DONE!!!! Come to the message boards as much as you can, keep us up to date, and listen to others stories...that is what inspired me most of all!
Ill keep you in my prayers..Love,
Katie
