Hello, my daughter just showed me this site and I am very excited that I might be able to get some support. No one seems to understand the pain that I am in. They think it's in my head. I am retired and want to enjoy life, but most days I can't leave the house. My doctor has me on Ultram 50mg 3 times per day. I have been taking this dose for a few years. In the beginning, it did help. But know, I take one and it does nothing. I am miserable. I have a very sensitve stomach so I have to careful of what I take. My daughter was telling about some Long Acting meds, but I don't know where to start or what to ask for. I want to be prepared when I go to the doctor.
Can anyone help? Maybe I have built up a tolerance to the ultram. Since it helped before, maybe I should increase my dose.? I am so confused.
Sorry this is so long, but I really need some advice.
Thanks for listening and GOD Bless!

hello cakes, my name is robin, nice to meet you. i know how you feel but i have only been taking ultram for 3 weeks.
i am use to taking norco for pain but when i had to go to a clinic due to my pain doc no longer wanting to help me all they prescribe me was a non narcotic pain med. i said i would try it since i really had no choice. anyway it is not helping me the way i was hoping it would. it takes the edge off the edge if you know what i mean. norco use to just take the edge off the pain period. i am kind of between a rock and a hard place right now waiting for the clinic to refer to the only pain doc that takes medicaid which can sometimes take 1month. i call and all i get is voicemail, so annoying.
if you have a good understanding doctor who is sensitive you should talk to him or her about other alternatives to pain meds that are safe for your stomach and help with the pain. tell them exactly how you feel and write it down before you go if you need to so you won't forget anything. it is so hard these days to get pain meds that you feel might really help you from the docs. they want you to exercise and all that stuff first. just be honest and hopefully they will understand and help you.
good luck and keep us posted.

I have to take 2 ultrams before I can feel any difference. My original prescription said take one or two pills (50 mg). I still take 2 at a time. I wish they made them in 100 mg.

Welcome! I hope you find some relief soon.

I take ultram when I have a bad flare, which i haven't for awhile. knock on wood. I take neurontin for burning skin. I take percocet every 5 hours for pain. As my meds wear off, i can feel my symptoms coming back, therefore i know i am on a good maintenance dose. My pain mgmt dr. didn't have a problem at with prescribing percocet and even advised me to save some up for flares.
