Back in August 2004 I had open heart sugery to remove a tumor from the INSIDE of my heart which they said was called an Atrial Myxoma. It turned out to be non-cancerous, thank god! I am a 28 year old female. I was told that this is and was somethign very rare. I was wondering if anyone has had this same thing or anything similar. I find it very hard to cope with that everytime I have a pain I immediately think it is a tumor or cancer. I was told that it is very rare for it to come back also. If anyone has any input, I'd love to hear it. Thanks.

I am a 31 y.o. female and also had a left atrial myxoma removed one year ago. It was actually the one year anniversary on Saturday, and it has been difficult to cope with. It was basically a near-death experience for me (long story), and so I am very thankful it was found and removed, but I still worry about the future and think a lot about what happened one year ago. I was on Zoloft for awhile, which helped with the anxiety and emotions, but I have come off recently and the worries and emotions have gotten worse again. I know there is such a small chance of it recurring that I shouldn't worry, but there is still that chance. Additionally, I worry about my mitral valve and about all of the palpitations I feel. I was diagnosed with PVCs 3 years before they found my myxoma, but I usually didn't feel them....now, though, I feel them ALL of the time. I have been looking for some kind of myxoma support group, but I haven't found one, I guess because they're so uncommon. I'm sorry to hear about your worries, but now I know (and you can know, too) that we're not alone.
