I had an accident at work a week ago and badly bruised my ribs, I went to the hospital and had an x ray but there is nothing broken. Still find it sore to breathe and to get up. It also hurts when i sneeze or cough. Any idea how long this will last?

Depending upon how badly bruised they are probably another week or so. The symptoms you described, they are classic for the diagnosis. Try not to do any heavy lifting (like that's possible, right?) and you may want to take ibuprophen for the pain. Since the x-ray did not show any fractures, you'll be OK. chris

It has now been two weeks and i am still off work as i do
a lot of heavy lifting .Any idea how long this will take to heal.
It just seems along time just for bruising.

I think you will feel better very soon. I bruised my ribs while cleaning the bathroom! I was leaning across the closed toilet seat while cleaning the floor behind it. The pain was so awful after a few days I went to doc and he gave an rx for xray. I didnt go for the xray, deciding to wait it out. I walked around clutching a pillow which seemed to help. After abut 2 weeks the pain went away rather suddenly, didnt taper off. Hope you feel better soon.

I dont know what else it might be. I dont see how you could have damaged anything inside if the ribs arent broken. Do the ribs hurt more when you press on them? Mine did. I could tell the pain was close to the surface. If you are still in that much pain maybe you should go back to the doc. According to my caluclations the accident was maybe 3 weeks ago? I would think you might feel a little better by now.
