Please tell me if adults can get what is know as croup? I have all the same symptoms I used to have.(I used to get it real bad EVERY year when I was a child) How should I treat it as an adult?

Are you still here? I know this is an old thread, but I get this croup thing every time I get a really bad cold - and I'm 33. I finally went in to the emergency room last November and the doc there diagnosed it as croup. He said he didn't know what else to call it. When I saw an ENT in January, he said adults don't get croup and it's actually subglottic stenosis. But I've found abstracts since then from doctors who say there IS an adult croup. My ENT did see my stenosis (narrowing in subglottis), but subglottic stenosis in children is caused by croup. I wonder if my stenosis is caused by these viral infections too. If anyone else gets this during colds (stridor, seal bark cough), please write back.

My son is 11 yrs old and has ALWAYS been a cougher, but he didn't have his first bout of croup until 7 yrs old. We had to call 911 and he was transported and given steroid. We have since battled croup several times a year EVERY YEAR and he is now 11 and the doctor says it is so strange. He takes about 3-5 days worth of prednisone once or twice a year for the real bad ones and then we just try to get through the others the best we can (antihistamine, steam inhalations). Now the doctor wants to try some inhaled steroids for a few months to try to prevent the attacks. I really do hate the meds. He never gets the attacks in the summer. About October through March. Can any older children or adults relate to this? What tests are there? What can be done? Thank you [ removed ]
