View Full Version : 8 days and feelin' good!

I am on day 8 and I am starting to feel like my old self again. I am being very pro-active and taking my health seriously for the first time in my entire adult life. I met with a physical trainer who specializes in back injuries who is also a clinical psychologist. I am also in weekly counseling with a post traumatic shock therapist and I see a psychiatrist who is going to help me become med free eventually (he believes in homeopathy...pretty cool huh!) The best part is these people all work together and are aware of my recovery from addiction. This board has been a huge part in my recovery as well. At first I logged on just out of curiosity...now it has become a major source of strength for me so thanks so much everyone! :D
The reason I am sharing all of this is because 2 weeks ago when I was still using I never would have thought I would be taking these steps toward recovery. The high I am getting off of taking care of myself and nurturing myself without drugs is soooo much better than a narcotic high. I finally have hope at happiness and peace again :) . It IS expensive to receive this health care, but how much do you think we have all spent on the drugs that are/were killing us?
I hope this helps anyone reading these boards that is considering quitting or second guessing quitting.
good luck to all and keep up the good work!

Wow, you are doing so great! I'm very happy for you! :D

I do believe now that the "real high" comes from inside and is so much better. This is a little embarrassing but I was intimate with my husband for the first time last night without pills. I always thought the pills made sex better but I was surprised at how intensely I could feel everything, it was lovely! And the best part is, I can relive it because I can actually remember it today :p

Keep on keepin' on ~

hjd,

Congrats! :) It sounds like you're doing ALL the right things! By looking after your mind, body and soul you are affirming that yes, you do love yourself, and yes, you are worth it! I think that's the best investment one can ever make and definitely money well spent. As you said, where would it have gone to anyway? Your news is music to my ears...thanks so much for sharing.

Hollyday, what you just shared about your husband is also so inspiring. I bet he hasn't stopped grinnng from ear to ear because I'm sure he could sense that you were really "there" for him in a way that you maybe couldn't be before. How cool is that to remember the next day and give your hubby a wink and a nudge and tell him how special it was for you!

Both you guys deserve big hugs especially because you're coming back to share your positive feelings about being clean and sober. You've both likely touched a lot of lives because of this. I am hoping that someday my son will be in a position to do the same.

God bless you both!

Nell

Wow everyone...thanks so much! I am still clean as a whistle and feeling pretty great about everything.
Hollyday- (funny, my name is holly too!) I totally know what you mean about the intimacy thing! Talk about a natural high! I bet both of our husbands are a lot happier now that we are clean. Keep up the good work (or shall I say "work it girl!" ;)
It's really great getting your positive feedback everyone so thanks again!

Wow you hit the nail on the head because the whole next day we were winking and nudging and then had round #2 the next night which was even better than the one before. ;) Yknow, before, I would take the pills to give me a little extra energy and it kinda lowered my inhibitions a little too so I could do things he enjoyed without being embarrassed. (I know, I know, 19 years and I still blush - lol!) But, what do you know, I found out that the pills were actually numbing me and kinda depressing my natural sensitivity. Now I know that WITHOUT pills, I get the chance to enjoy everything just as much as he does! AND I DO!!! :bouncing:

I apologize to everyone if I'm being a little too forward but on the other hand I think it's important to share that certain things that you thought were better WITH drugs, can be SOOOOOOOOO much better without....
