Hello to ALL, I AM....,

With Hurricane week coming up next week, I was just wondering if anybody
has a story to tell about surviving one.

Last year in September 11th, of 04', on a Thursday afternoon, my Hubby
and I, and our three Daughters left out of New Orleans, on a HUGE Cruise Ship, on a five day, Caribbean Cruise to Mexico, even though,
" Hurricane IVAN was OUT THERE !"
In all actuality, I NEVER did want to go. It just kind of happened.

I felt like I was dragged into IT !
I heard things like, ' Ohhh Diana , you will have a blast ! '
' Ohhh, the food is fantastic ! ' ' They have food twenty four hours ! '
' There's pizza and ice cream 24-7 ! ' ' There will be fancy seven course
dinners ! ' ' Ohh, the shows are GREAT ! ' ' There is a Casino ! '
' You can get a massage ' ! ' The drinks are Free ! ' ' And, there's Room Service, 24-7 ! '

Well, the night before we were to leave, we were visiting my IL'S, and my
FIL said he just didn't think they would take the ship out into the Gulf !
My GH was quick to say, ' Ohhh, Dad they know how to go around hurricanes.'
I knew then, I had messed up ! My FIL has never been wrong about anything
in twenty three years, NEVER ! Well, it was too late by then.....,

Needless to say, I took a bunch of meds., you know the ' just in case, ones '.
I also had on the wrists bands, I had Scopolimene, Drammamine, Meclomine,
Phenegren, and Antivert (for inner ear probs.), ALL in hand.

We never reached our two main destinations, (Ports of call !) ! Uhhhh,
because that is where IVAN was.
So, we stayed on the inner Gulf side and stopped at a couple of places,
it was places in Mexico that had never seen a Cruise Ship !
These folks thought we were RICH ! HA !lol.

Once, going back to the Ship, we were almost swept away when all of a
sudden, a huge storm came up out of nowhere...,
We jumped inside one of the little places that were set up for selling suvienours, knee deep in water.
I learned a new word that day..., ' Squall ' ! That's what they
call, what we went through, getting soaking wet !
Just as soon as it came..., IT was gone !
I thought that word mean I would be ' Squalling all the way home '.lol.

That night, I learned another new word....., ' Swells ' ! (A new one on me !)
This is the night we were out in the Gulf, dodging IVAN still, and we had
sixteen to twenty Swells ! I don't know the proper info., but it was
HUGE Waves hitting the window of your cabin !!! That was enough for me.
EVERYBODY was sick that night, even the Crew !

I was actually SICK the whole time. If I did get out of the cabin, it wasn't
a pleasent sight ! I was not only sick, but I also had Vertigo !
This is ' Double Sick ! ' I looked like a Drunk, and I do not drink....,
Really, the whole trip is just like a fog to me now. Even now, one of the
girls will mention something about the Cruise, and I am going...,
' I don't remember THAT ! ' Then, the laughter starts.

The most interesting thing was, we didn't have bad weather, no rain,
no thunder..........., just the Ship, not only rocking back and fourth, but
Up and down at the same time !

We couldn't watch TV, and we heard no weather reports, no CNN !
Of course, NOT ! They didn't want folks to panic, for goodness sake !

At one point and time, we heard that New Orleans was going to take a
direct HIT ! We thought, oh well, at least we will maybe get a new car out
of this deal..., thankfully, this didn't happen...,

Our five day Cruise turned into a seven day one, as we had to come up the
coast and docked in Galveston, Texas !
By this time, folks did start to panic !!!
The first deal they made us was that we could get off the Ship and shop and
etc., and they would give everyone a bus ride, into New Orleans.
They soon changed their minds, on that, and said if we did get off of the
Ship, we were on our own ! Or, we could stay the night and get into
New Orleans late the next afternoon !
I think about half of the folks on the ship got off.
We rode out the storm, and...,
We made it back, safe and sound.
I did have nightmares that constantly reminded ME of this trip, for a while !

I didn't handle this at ALL ! I was medicated the whole time, and in bed most of the time.
Do any of you think this was worse for me because of being Bipolar ?
It just seemed to affect me more than anybody else...,

I would love to hear your stories....,

Gee Gee

Ack Gee Gee,
That sounded like it was horrible, I always thought I would like a cruise, you changed my mind, LOL. I can just imagine what it would be like swaying up and down and side to side. My heart goes out to you.
The only storm worth mentioning that I can think of, was when I was in the second grade. We were all playing out in the school yard when they made us run in the school, get under our desks and put our hands over our head. There was a great rumbling, and the school shook, I was fairly scared. then it got quiet and it was over.
From what I was told, there was a big ugly tornado comming at the school that one of the teachers saw. (i never saw it, of course I wasn't looking) But at the last minute it sucked back up into the clouds and went away before it reached the school, it was close enough to shake the school though and make a heck or racket but didn't break anything, the only mess was a pile of papers caught in the fence.
LOL, not much of a story. But that is as close as I have gotten to a major storm. I have been in some itty bitty huricanes, with winds in the 80"s, but they weren't so bad.

Hi Gee Gee,
I am in Jacksonville, Florida. You know Florida? The hurricane magnet? LOL
Needless to say I went through the remnants of four storms last year. We never got a direct hit here but it was close. Of course Frances stayed over us for days and caused the worst damage. I was pretty doped up the whole time. I know I had to increase the Klonipin because of the anxiety of it. Watching the news 24/7 hurts more than it helps, trust me.
I know I stayed pretty panicky depite the drugs. I don't know if that is from my anxiety or the Bipolar. Of course being under constant wind and rain for 5 days with no end in sight could make anyone crazy! Not too mention almost the entire city was without power.
That's really it for my hurricane story. Nothing spectacular...
Oh funny thing. My exhubby is Charlie. So when Hurricane Charlie came blowing into Florida he had to call and make some big deal about how powerful he was blah blah. Well my name is Frances... SOOOO when Frances was churning up off the coast and was approximately the size of Texas AND a cat 5... I had to call him and remind him who was bigger and badder. LOL

Hello ! Dave,

Ohhhh, don't go getting scared. That's what I didn't want to happen...,

I really think my case is so scary, because of my being Bipolar......,
cuz I was having panic attacks, anxiety, MANIC, and on and on...,
it seemed like, at the same time ! I was a mess. That's why I wondered
if anybody has had the same experience..., you know ?

AND, I can't swim, do not want to try, and I love to go out in the mighty
Mississippi river, whilst fishing for catfish. It's just that I like to be able to
SEE LAND !!!LOL., Ya Know ?

I really need to add some more positive words of wisdom to my Thread,
I think. There is a lot of comical stuff about that trip !

YEP ! I do know what you mean about that big ugly tornado coming at you..,
I am also a ' Tornado Survivor ' ! Send me some feed back..,
Should I do a different Thread, or add my story with the other one...., ???
Please let me know what you think, okay ?

You know the feeling that makes your heart skip a beat or two, when
someone insists on taking you on a trip that you know you would NOT like,
but, you just go on,
so you want be called a ' party pooper ' ?

And then your trip turned out just like you thought, and you wanted to
get your hands around the necks of the folks that made you go.......,
Nah, I have no marks where anybody twisted my arms.lol.
That's all there is to this..., duuuuuuuuuuuuuuh.......,

Thanks for your reply Dave. I will reply to your Thread ASAP, okay ?
Take Care,
Gee Gee

Yep ! I DO know FLorida ! My sister lives in Orlando ! We were so worried
about her the whole time. Thankfully, they didn't really get a direct HIT !
However, she and her friend live on a corner lot, and just had a few trees down, but a lot of people in their neighborhood had major damage.
They were without power for days, also.

Well, I do think I did the right thing by increasing my meds., I just had no
choice. And, like you said, I don't know if I was experiencing anxiety or
Bipolar, or what ! I was like you, I stayed panicky the whole time, despite
the meds.,
I am glad to know that I am not the only one who has increased their
meds., while in the middle of a very stressful, and horrific situation !

What a HOOT ! YES ! I know you Ya'll Frances. And I do remember Charlie !
Goooooooooo Frances, the bigger and badder !

Thanks for your reply, and I would love to hear from you again...,
Take Care,
Gee Gee
