Hello, has anyone tried Herpasil? It is a topical balm that is supposed to help shorten the duration and intensity of OBs. Just wondering if this is a waste of money or something to look into. I'm almost willing to try anything at this point! :(

Ashlyn,
NOne of the over the counter creams ever did anything for me. I have been getting sores on my mouth since I was a little girl and have tried everything. I use a creme now called denivere (correct sp I think) its by prescription though and I get it from my dentist who is also my boss...If you use it at the first tingle or itch, it can prevent them from coming out entirely. It doesn't work if the sore is already formed. If thats the case, I am very careful & break mine with a pin then burn the he** out of it with rubbing alcohol. I know this sounds painful but it shortens the duration.Thats just me though, you have to be careful because they will spread. There are other new creams I am reading about at work for oral type 1 that sound promising although I haven't had one for a while so I haven't used them. I can find out the names if you like. Some people have had luck with over the counter stuff so maybe they can chime in! Good luck :)

Never tried Herpasil....But I did use H-balm, which didn't help at all....I get relief (HSV-2, gentially) with using hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle - to blast my lower area....Also, I've used aloe vera gel (also, in a spray bottle) and if symptoms really persist, I'll have my OB-Gyn. call in Zovirax creme (15g.) tube and apply to the "active area". Keep, in mind - that everyone is different and with patience, time and trial & error, you'll find what works best for you....Good Luck, -shinyOrn
