When I was pregnant for my first my IBS was pretty bad in the first part of my pregnancy. My Dr. said it was probably due to horomone changes. After my first trimester my IBS "seemed" cured. In my last trimester my IBS got worse again & my Dr. said it had to do with chnging horomones & my body preparing for birth. So hang in there!

Finally someone with the same experiance. I was so worried about it. Nobody seemed to reply i thought Dr was wrong and i was having some kind of major tummy problem. Reassuring to know that IBS can get worse during pregnancy.
Thanks a lot for your reply.
Did anything actually help to control the cramps and pain. Did the Ibs have any affect on your baby?.

My friend had the opposite experience. Her symptoms got better when she was pregnant. I also have a friend who has celiac disease and it disappeared while she was pregnant and breastfeeding. Unfortunately it came back after she stopped nursing. Just further proof that hormones probably have a lot to do with our IBS woes.

Glad I could help! No, there was not really anything that they could do to help with the pain. The Dr. just said that as long as I got plenty of fluids & was not losing any weight, there was nothing more they could do for me. They told me that for diarrhea I could take Imodium (I think that was what they said I could have. Don't quote me. Check with your Dr. I can't remember exactly, but it seems like it was Imodium). As for the constipation they said to drink plenty of fluids, go out for a walk & there was some kind of suppository I could have, but I didn't need it. Of course check with your Dr. before using any meds. As for the pain, lots of water helped. Water helps get your stomach juices flowing & so does a little excercise. Tylenol helped with the pain when I just couldn't pass a BM, not a whole lot. My Dr. also said that if the cramps were not relieved from passing gas or having a BM & seemed to get worse to go get checked out, because it could be contractions. There were no affects on my baby. My Dr. said as long as I drank plenty of water & did not get dehydrated or lose weight, the baby would be fine. Good Luck & take care!
