I am really scared. My ten year old daughter showed me her armpit yesterday. It looks very swollen. It is very different than her other one. I tried to feel for a swollen lymph node, but couldnt feel anything. The mass feels like fatty tissue. She said it is not sore at all. I am calling the dr. tomorrow, but after looking up things online tonight Ive become very scared. Has anyone heard of this or know what it could be? Please help!!

when I was pregnant my armpit swelled up but it didnt hurt or have any lumps it just seemed fatter as you are describing All it was was mammary glands that got up there and the hormones and glands were gearing me up for milk production I guess. I was so worried at first but my doctor said it would go away after the baby and it did. Maybe your daughter is hitting puberty?

Besafe20,
Thanks for the information. I think she may be starting to hit puberty now that you say it. She will be 11 in september, and I started my period when I was a month away from 11. If she is anything like me, it will probably be soon. I guess I'll watch it for awhile since we just noticed it a few days ago and see what happens. I hope thats all it is!!
Thanks again!!

dewdrop333,
Yes she does wear deodorant, although not consistantly. I am not sure if she even does it once a week, just real sporatic. Did your armpit turn red or itch or was it painful in any way? Thanks for your time!

Not itchy or painful just a big old lump there .. I was scared I might have breast cancer .. I went in to my doctor and he said it was an alergy ..

You should see the doc just for piece of mind about the swollen armpit to make sure it isn't something that needs to be taken care of right away. Also since she is 11 she needs to start using deodorant daily. She could very well be at the start of puberty so be sure she is well prepared for what will be happening. If she hasn't had her yearly physical yet this year then now would be a good time to get that scheduled when you have the armpit checked. That way the doc can see how she is doing and also clue her in a bit about what is or is going to be happening to her body. Good Luck.

I had a talk with my daughter, and she does wear deodorant a lot more than I realized.... shows how much I know sometimes!! It is still swollen looking, like fatty tissue. I would expect to feel something like a golf ball inside it, but when you feel its all soft. I think I will take her to the dr next week, if for anything, to set my mind at rest. I keep looking online trying to figure out what it could be and I only read scary things. Her physical isnt due until september. I dont think our insurance will pay for it sooner. If anyone else has anything to share, please do! I appreciate everyone's time.
