has anyone ever experienced a swelled wrist but no pain. My friends say I should have it looked at. It is swollen but I don't have a pain or reason for it. Is it possible its a tumor or something.
Thanks for any information. Hoefully someone has experienced this before.

Anytime that you have an onset of swelling with no explanation it really should be evaluated by some sort of medical professional. There has to be a reason for it.it could be a symptom of a much bigger problem or nothing major. But you wont know until you have it checked out.Hope it is nothing serious.FB

I have small swelling in my left wrist. I had visited a doctor and he said that there is a benign cyst inside.
Painless swelling in the wrist could be sign of ganglion cyst, ganglion cysts arise as outpouchings from fluid filled areas such as the fluid within the small joints of the wrist, or fluid within the sheath that surrounds the wrist tendons. When the fluid leaks out from these spaces, it can become a cystic structure.
There is one very rare type of cancer, called sarcoma, that the symptom is usually appear as lump in the arm. Therefore, you should go to the doctor for checking that swelling.
Wish you healthy.

Thanks RYU1977 and FEELBAD for the info. I have made a doctors appointment for Monday. I will let you know what it is. It really helps to have a messageboard like this to hear what others have experienced.

I saw my doctor today and she had me get xrays and an MRI of my wrist. I don't know the results yet but will let you know. I won't have the MRI until Wednesday morning. I wonder how long it takes for them to see if anything is wrong. Does anybody know. I will be a wreck until I know.

They will know soon after they could observe your MRI whether your swelling is benign or dangerous. MRI is very sharp and has high accuracy in diagnosis. Please calm down, and let us know your MRI result.
Like I said before, Sarcoma is very very rare type of cancer and mostly lump in our wrist is a benign cyst.
Wish you healthy

The xrays came back ok. Still waiting to see the orthopedic wednesday though. Can someone tell me what a MRI see's that an xray doesn't. If an xray is of the bone it looks like if theres a swelling in my wrist it would show what causing that too. I know there must be a reason for having both but I don't understand what the difference is.

If I am not wrong, MRI is able to show blood flow and has sharper picture than X-ray.

Saw the Orthopedic surgeon today as requested by my insurance company. he wants me to have an MRI. Now I guess the insurance company will have to pay for the orthopedic and mri. I am having the mri monday. He is pretty sure its just Lipomas which is non cancerous. Thats good news. He did say that it would keep getting bigger maybe slowly. I think I will have it removed if thats the case because it won't be long I will be retireing and medicare will not pay as much as my insurance will now. I don't want that to worry about after I retire. Does anybody know about lipomas?

Good news Kerrycats
Lipomas are benign and common tumors. Lipomas are commonly found under the skin and sometimes in internal organs. Lipomas usually are small and can be removed by surgery.
Good luck

I had the MRI and I have an appointment tuesday with my doctor about it. They did not call me when they got the results back so I feel thats good. I called them and wanted to know the results and they told me they give MRI results over the phone I have to come in and talk to the doctor. I will know Tuesday. I really think its just a fatty tumor or something although its not soft. I have another one thats more obvious on my leg and my medical doctor said thats what that is and its nothing to be concerned about. This on my wrist is under the skin where the other is on top of the skin. Well I guess I will know tuesday I will let you know in case anyboby else goes through this.
Thanks for all you help

Sorry for being so late with this. The MRI I had didn't show anything even though my wrist is swelled. The report said it was an abnormal thickness of fat under the skin. The doctor said he wouldn't advise doing anything because if they do it would mean skin grafts and that kind of stuff. I am just going to watch it and he said if it gets bigger come back and see him. Thank God its not cancer. I glad of that. Thanks for everyones help and thoughts. I love this board.
