My boyfriend has a bump on his hand. He's always had it, but it's been very small. Now it's getting bigger & hurts him. It's on the top part of his hand, just above his wrist. We thought it might be an inflammed tendon, but in researching online have come up empty-handed. Does anyone know what this might be? It's only gotten worse in the last two days and continually hurts him more as time goes on. He hasn't yet gone to the doctor and has an appointment in a week, but we don't think he should wait that long since it's getting worse day by day. We have a feeling he may need to go to the specialist, but I'm sure would have to start with the doctor to get a referral. Anyone that may know what this is or has experienced something similar, please contact us. Thanks!

Tortuga,

Until you've been to the doctor, the only tool I know of would be one of the symptom solving applications on various medical research websites.

WebMD.com has a very good one. If that's not helpful, try the other symptom solvers at diagKNOWsis.org .

If the family doctor needs to make a referral, and it's as bad as you are afraid it is, then I'm sure they'll work to get him seem by a specialist as quickly as they can. And if not? Figure out what kind of specialist it is he needs to see, find one that is taking patients more quickly, and ask for a referral to THAT specialist.

Let us know how it goes,

I had something very similar. It turned out to be a ganglion, which is just a fleshy cyst. Have a look for that on the net.
