Hi...I was reading all the different posts on 'hemochromatosis and iron over load' and no one mentioned 'hemosiderosis'. I was diagnosed with this in my mid twenties after routine blood work. When the nurse called me about my results...her first question was..."Does Live disease run in my family?" And it doesn't. The doctor didn't want to do anything about the high ferratin level I had...but when I changed doctors about a year later and told him ...He done a test then and said there were two types of high iron disorders ..Hemosiderosis and Hemochromatosis ...So I was diagnosed with the Hemosiderosis...Which he says is also genetic or inherited. And also told me to go have a phlebotomy done at the hospital which I did and later gave blood to the blood bank with their knowledge of my disoder also. I have it checked 'occassionally' probably not like I should. But here lately its been in the high norms. My doctor did tell me it was rare for a menstrating woman to have it...Especially with a 9 days menstration. Does anyone else out there have this type of blood disoder?

Hi, I was under the impression that hemosiderosis is related to blood in the lungs. Is this what you've been diagnosed with? or is there another type of homosiderosis that isn't pulmonary related? My 2 year old son was diagnosed with a type of pulmonary hemosiderosis called Heiner Syndrome. It is where a sensitivity to cow's milk causes bleeding in the lungs. Do you have symptoms with your diagnosis?

I wish you well and hope you find answers to your questions.
