So my husband went in for kidney stone surgery and the pre op nurse is asking what medications he's on/taking and tells us and interesting fact. He shouldn't be mixing the valtrex with his Prilosec OTC because the prilosec cancels out the Valtrex. It's a possibility that other similiar medications could do the same thing. Which could explain why after being outbreak free for so long he had a mild outbreak.

If your taking other medications with the valtrex you might want to check with your pharmacist to see if they have an effect on the anti-viral properties of Valtrex.

he was told to wait at least an hour after taking the other medication to take the valtrex. So i'd check with your pharmacist :)
