View Full Version : Very worried...bruising/petechiae

Hi,

I've been breaking out in petechiae and bruises for over a month now for no reason. I had labs done a couple weeks ago and my platelet count was normal...along with a bleeding time test. The only thing that was abnormal was my wbc count being low...at 3.9. My Dr. didn't really have any answers. I'm just wondering what else could be causing my bruising. It had all pretty much cleared up and then this morning I woke up with several large petechiae(a little smaller than the end of an eraser) on the back of my upper thigh. It looks awful...I counted about 15 spots. I also have a new bruise on my upper arm that looks very dark.

Could someone please let me know what all of the possible causes could be with my platelet count being normal. I did recently start taking Lexapro, but I had petechiae before starting this med. I'm really getting worried.

Thanks,
Hilery

Get another platelet test.. my was at a 101 and 2 days later it had dropped to 54...so it can change pretty fast.....Go in and insist on it...
Good luck! Lori

My initial thoughts was maybe a new medication but you said you had petechiea before you began taking. I would definately go back to your doctor for a cbc and request a platelet function test and bleeding time if it comes back normal. Maybe something is affecting the efficiency of your platelets. It could be med orieted.
