View Full Version : Does this sound like Folliculitis?

Hiya, i shaved my pubic area about 1 month ago and had protected sex last Saturday. On the Tuesday i discovered a solitary pimple in my pubic region about 1.5 inches above my penis. This looked identical to a zit and i popped it causing a stringy white substance to come out, which looked identical to the pus that comes out from popping a zit. I did this for a couple of days in a row but it is still there now, just a red colour about 3mm in diameter but without a yellow head or raised in any way. It never hurt, itched or anything and i never got more than one, even after popping it a few times. I also never got any prodrome symptoms or headaches, fever, nausea etc. However, for the last three days the area where my lymph node on the left side of my groin would be is quite tender. I am due to see a nurse on Mon, but the standard of care for Herpes here in England is atrocious. There is no blood tests and they are reluctant to do a viral culture for some reason.

I strongly suspect folliculitis, but cannot explain a little bit of tenderness in my left lymph node. Any suggestions??

Many thanks

Paul

Hey Paul!
What you describe does sound like a regular pimple to me. Canīt say why your lymph would be tender, just from worrying?

That being said, herpes does manifest in many ways, so nobody can tell you 100% that itīs not herpes.

I know itīs criminally hard to get tested in the UK. Public healthcare = saving money. I know you can get a blood test too, but that would recuire a private clinic, I think, and you spending the money.

Should you want to test yourself keep in mind that what you need is a type specfic blood test, Igg. Not an Igm, it will not tell you type (hsv-1 or hsv-2) and does basically just show if the infection is new, the antibodies could even not show up on an Igm later on. You need to wait 12-16 weeks past exposure before you get tested so that the antibodies will surely show up.

Good luck :)!
