Ask the doctor to prescribe an epi-pen. It's an andrenaline syringe that can be used in emergencies if your husband had an life-threatening reaction. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. It sounds like he is allergic to aspirin. (advil is related to asprin). Echinecia is allergenic for many people with ragweed allergies. The tylenol is odd though. Perhaps it is a dye or filler in the pills. Maybe he could try liquid tylenol?

Hi, I have allergies to a lot of meds too. (Advil is related to aspirin???) I didn't know that. I've developed what I think is an alergy to aspirin (rash & mouth problems). I was taking advil for a recent rib problem...that caused huge blisters in my mouth.
I'm allergic to sulfites (in a LOT of foods/food products).
I CARRY BENADRYL ALWAYS. I have the tabs, but the liquid would probably act quicker. An epi-pen would be great for severe reactions.
Your husband should see an allergist, to determine what allergens affect him. If he is getting reactions a lot, it would be important to identify, so he can avoid the allergens or find alternative meds when he needs them.

I don't think that Advil is related to Aspirin. But they are both stomach irritants. I can't take either one for that reason, but I have no problem with tylenol.

I would see another DR!! My doc sent me to an allergist when I went in comlaining about reactions to foods in my mouth and throat!! I was in the next day!!!! Those things are NOT normal!!!! And if the DR tells you to experiment that just sounds WRONG!!!! Find a new dr!! You never know what he could be allergic to, I just found out I have allergies to ALOT of things and my whole life I though I was allergy free!!!! See an allergist!! They can test you and give you GREAT answers!!!! Mine is wonderful!! :) Good Luck!!

Well they are both NSAIDs. Tylenol is not a NSAID. And people with asprin-induced asthma are usually told they can't take advil (ibprofen) either.

Hi,
I agree, DO NOT EXPERIMENT. I have had two anaphylactic reactions to meds and my allergist said under no circumstances to take anything unless it is under her supervision. Facial swelling can spread to your tongue and throat which is not a good thing. Definitely see another allergist and in the meantime don't try anything new and keep liquid benedryl at hand. It won't stop a full blown reaction but it will help. There is really no way to know when a reaction is going get worse. Having a hoarse voice or coughing during a reaction can signal that your throat is swelling. In that case, go to the ER for treatment. Hope I don't sound too dramatic, but it can be serious.

Hi I am also allergic to all pain meds. I would not advise your husband to experiment . He could have a bad reaction and his throat could close up and not get any air. I know because I've been there done that. Good idea for the epi pin, but it does cost even with good insurance.
Good Luck.

I am also allergic to what sems like every pill I take. I have finally come to the conclusion that it is maybe a filler or something they put in the pills other than the medicine.

Allergic to all pain meds except Tylenol which I can live with BUT I am hypertensive and can't get good control even though have lost 27 lbs and eat right and exercise.
Tried Alpha blockers, Beta Blockers, Diuretics, and ARBs with reactions to all of them, Tried apresoline and also reacted and then found many of these meds also have dyes in them. I cannot eat any food with yellow dye, I have a history of angioedema from NSAIDs and this seems to be related. My PCP wants me to try an ACE inhibitor but even my pharmacist was afraid I'd react especially since I reacted to the ARB.
I can take vitamins but only capsules and dye free, yeast free. Stay away from most herbs as have allergies to grasses and weeds.
I have had this problem for over 15 years, carry and epi pen and benadryl dye free at all times. This past year I really related the reactions to yellow 5 and 6 and was amazed at how many prepared products use this dye!!
Haven't had any reactions since cleaning the diet of junk and being careful when eating out. AND take no medications.
Was sent to an allergist, a professor at a local state college no less, who told me there is no such thing as a dye allergy!
He also told me that he couldn't test for any meds except penicillin and that I still had choices for BP control.
No help there at all.
