View Full Version : Vision problem

I have had diabetes for two years and have had no vision problems. I saw my opthamologist four months ago and everything was fine. Last night three hours after dinner, my blood sugar was 104. An hour later, I ate a mini Klondike bar, 7.5 gm carb. After a while on my computer, I watched TV for a short while. When I again looked at my computer monitor, everything was so blurry, I could hardly see the icons. I wish I had checked my blood sugar, but I figured it couldn't have been high. I went to bed and this morning my eyesight is normal. I have never heard of a sudden and short occurance like this and wonder what caused it.

Hiya.

Not sure what type you are..1 / 2...?

However, if it's just a one-off it could have been many other factors instead of a diabetic complication. You might have been tired, not looked away from your screen often enough (I believe it's advised if you are on a computer or watching TV that you look at an object quite a distance away at least every 30mins) and many other things like that.

If it continues, go and get your eyes checked, better to get on these things sooner rather than later.

I am type 2 with very good control, diet and exercise only. I had just come back to the computer after dozing off in front of the TV, so I'm sure my eyes weren't tired.

If you had just been asleep and then looked at the computer screen then I'd be tempted to say that's a pretty normal thing to happen.

Your eyes will be very sensitive to light (especially that ommitted from a PC screen) if they've been closed for a while.

Like I said, if you have concerns see your optician, it's better to be safe than sorry. From what you've mentioned though, it certinaly doesn't sound something D-related.

I could understand a momentary blurriness that then clears up, but this didn't. My eyes were still blurry 20 minutes later when I went to bed. I have never experienced anything like this before and I'm sure it is connected to my diabetes. It does seem very strange since I don't think my blood sugar could have been high. A reading of over 130 even two hours after eating is rare for me. I was interested in knowing if anyone else had ever experienced something like this.

Jacqueline-

The next time you see your MD, you might ask for a hemoglobin A1c test to see what your average blood sugar has been running for the previous 3 months. Keeping it under 7.0% is considered "in control" for a diabetic, but if the number is higher, you may be experiencing some higher than normal blood sugar when you aren't checking the readings.

Another thing to consider is the addition of cinnamon to your diet. If you do a search on it cross-referenced with diabetes, you'll see some studies indicating it may be helpful. I actually picked up some in capsule form at a local vitamin store for about $8 for a month's supply. Just food for thought.

WB, I get an A1c test every three months. It has varied from 5.5 to 6.2.

Has anyone had an episode like this?
