I can't tell you how much pain you'll have from having the adenoids removed, but I've had the FESS three times and the post-op pain wasn't bad at all. The first time I also had a deviated septum fixed and that caused most of the pain, but this most recent time (3 months ago), I had almost no pain at all. They'll probably give you pain killers, just in case you feel you need them.

Good luck and let us know how you make out...

Be well,
Inq

I've had the Fess 3x as well and the second time was the worse as I had a deviated septum fixed and lot of other repairs. The pain is only intense those first 2-3 days so take some pain meds(vicodon, etc..) and that should keep you feeling just fine!

My last surgery I had the FESS plus my ENT made an incision from the outside(this was 2 weeks ago). So, I've been around and had them all, LOL! It is fine, not to bad. You'll survive!

Thank you all for replying to my post!
I appreciate it very much! The surgery is only 6 days away so I am counting down the days! :( I am once again getting another sinus infection, the 6th or 7th in the past nine months. It makes me realize how much I really do need this surgery! I have another question though!
How bad is it when they take the packaging or whatever it is after the surgery?

Thanks!

I've only had FESS once, but the pain wasn't bad at all. Removing the packing didn't really hurt either.

Seminole...

I didn't have to have packing in any of the three surgeries (including the one with the septum). I think they just cauterized everything. Some people get stents (stints? not sure of the spelling) as well, which help to keep things from moving out of place up there. Even if you do need packing, I think they only leave it in for 24 to 48 hours at most. Ask the doctor and see if you definitely need it -- if you don't you'll be able to feel air flow the same day as the surgery.

As for the infection, do they have you on pre-op antibiotics? If not, call the doctor now and let him/her know that you are coming down with something.

Keep us posted!

Be well,
Inq

I didn't have packing either, but stints. I actually have a stint in place right now from my surgery I had 2 weeks ago. I will get it out in a few weeks.

Hi there, hope your surgery goes well and there won't be much pain. I'm sure they will give you pain killers to help with the pain. Use the scale 0(no pain) to 10(severe pain) to let the doctor/nurses know. Good luck!

i had no pain either, just major stuffiness from not being able to blow my nose for 2 weeks. lots of blood and boogers. im almost 2 months post op and im feeling about 80% better. my ent gave me neil med's sinus rinse about 4 days after surgery -- god bless him for that. so that was my surgery in a nutshell.

Well,
I have one more day of freedom!
I am getting really, really, nervous! Thank you all for your advice! I am now mostly nervous about having the anesthesia and the needles!

Let me tell you, they tell you when they are about to give you the margarita but you won't know anything after that or have time to panic. The next thing you know is you wake up and it is all over. The worst is right after you wake up cause you will feel yucky and tired. You might even throw up and that is fine, i did after all 3 of my surgeries, but my last one which was 3 weeks ago the doctor told me he was going to pumo my stomach out before I wake up so I wouldn't get sick! Well, he did and when I woke up I dry heeved and nothing came up. It was wonderful! The last surgery I didn't get my stomach pumped and I threw up lots of blood and I hated it. So, if you have to be sick just expect it and once that is over you start to feel better. You will want to stay in recovery for a bit, don't be in a rush to come home till you know you can make it. Go home, go to bed. You will have gauze over your nose that first day but will likely stop bleeding by the next day. You'll be allright. I'm 3 weeks post op and doing just fine. The first few days will be hard, but you start to feel better after that so just plan to get plenty of rest the 3 days after surgery and don't do to much.

like Hall's said you won't have time to panic. The last thing I remember is him telling me he was putting it in. My husband says after that they started wheeling me away, and I reached out my hand for him to say one last good-bye. I don't remember it at all! I just remember waking up.

I slept a lot when I got home the first day. But the second day I felt way better. The third day I stopped the pain meds. One word of advice is to eat soft foods when you are ready to eat. Your nose will not like it if you attempt to eat anything crunchy.

I wonder how seminolechic's surgery went. I am having it on July 11th and I feel like she did. Scared to death.
