hi everyone. i'm usually over on the thyroid boards (i've got a heinus case of hashimoto's hypothyroid), but i have a feeling i'll be DXed with bi polar when i see go in for an evaluation on wednesday.
i gained 30 lbs with this last bout of hypo...amazingly i'm still not quite overweight, but i've been reading about weight gain caused by BP meds. if the doc wants to prescribe something, where should i draw the line if i want to avoid gaining any more weight?
does anyone have any experience with which ones cause or inhibit weight gain?
thanks so much!

Hiya and welcome to the board!
A really difficult one to answer as everyone's reaction to every drug is different so it's hard to say what will and won't make you gain weight, plus I understand that the dose you're on affects the weight gain too. I've had no weight gain with lithium (although it is a common side effect), but Mirtazipine (anti-d) saw me go up three dress sizes in 8 weeks - hideous.
I think all you can do is proceed with caution - tell the doc your concerns, then they can select a med that doesn't always pile on the pounds, maybe start you off on a low dose and see how it goes from there.
Hope it goes well for you
