Hi,
I'm making an appointment to see the gastroentrologist tomorrow without a doubt! I'm sick of looking pregnant from time to time, having bloating, gas, constipation, I had ENOUGH!! WHat do these docs do?
BTW, I went on strict diets, eat very healthy(mostly organic) exercise, drink water, oh, and the strict diets were "gluten free' and "milk free." What exactly will I have to go through if I tell the doc those symptoms. Thanks :( I don't know if this could be a bowl disorder or IBS, I'm confused.

Do you think that birth control pills would cause this, i'm about to go off them anyway.

Jessica,

The gastro/internal meds doc that I saw scheduled me for a colonoscopy right away. After that, he gave me Zelnorm, it didn't work for me. Then he put me on a liquid laxative, and told me if that didn't work in 3 days, he'd hospitalize me. Lucky for me, it worked. I went back and he gave me a years supply. He also told me to do the enema thing daily to help. That's basically my life these days.

a :)

Hi, yah, i just tried to call the gastro doc but they told me that i needed a "referral" from my pcp. Sooo, my appt is on monday and I requested an antibody/antigen test to see if I have an intolorance to gluten or lactose. I guess my pcp won't do that huh? He hasn't called back yet and i''m wondering if this is going to be a long deal. Like, I may be referred to the gastro doc which will take more time, huh? ARghhhhh, i hope not cause I know i'm not feeling right.

Jessica:
I had to respond because I have similar problems and I have to tell you I believe it's my birth control pill: YASMIN! I've taken it over 2 yrs now... constipation got worse- bleeding with hemrroids and I was embarrassed but finally went to the Dr because I felt like a knife was cutting me! ALso abdominal pain after certain foods or when I was upset/excited, esp right side and GAS!!!! I got put on Zelnorm prior to gastroenterologist referal last fall and was allergic to it- numbness in left side of body with 1st dosage! Gasto doc gave me a colonoscopy said I had IBS-C and prescribed Miralax. I take the generic Glycolax. I only have to take it 1x every 3 days or so! It's the most amazing stuff. Just makes me normal. Instead of 1 BM every 24-36 hours I have usually 3 in 24 hours! Very natural like, no taste clear mixing powder like benefiber. I tried benefiber but it really didn't help. Many fibers made me more constipated with drinking lots of water. YASMIN has a water retention property , so that makes sense with the constipation! But now I am having belching at every meal and burping and I have laid off the glycolax more than 3 days. I just had an upper GI series and will know in a few days if anything is wrong. I took my last pills this week for yasmin and will go off it and see what happens also. I also have other IBS symptoms now NO SODAS at all or I have very bad abdominal pain... can't have much high fat foods or milkshakes, etc. I didn't use to have problems with any of this and I am a healthy 27 yr old. I blame Yasmin. I hate to go off it b/c I had very clear skin and didn't get weight gain. I don't know what BCP you take but beware! I might try Kariva/Mircette or Ortho Tri Lo... or an IUD. I just don't know maybe it's estrogen that's the problem too. I am a nutritionist. That's my field and look at me now, I have irritable bowel!! If my symptoms go away after getting off the pill I'll be sure to post. Best of Luck to you!

I too have had issues with Yasmin. My constipation started a few years before I started taking it but I also had abdominal pain, bloating, distended abdomen, pain during sex and break through bleeding. I recently had a colonoscopy and have IBS-C. Doctor gave me Glycolax and it is working really well as far as having bowel movements, but the gas is crazy. Is anyone else have gas issues with Glycolax or Mirlax? Found anything that helps?
