Hi guys. Just thought I'd write here and see what anyone has to say.

I am 27. My grandparents have skin cancer. (and several others, ugh) I have fair skin, tons of moles...a very large one on my back. Of course tons of sun when I was little, I was a lifeguard too...

I have this growth on my forehead. It's about the size of a pencil eraser, but more oval shaped. Or kidney shaped maybe?? It's slightly darker than the rest of my skin. It feels like a scab, but isn't. It's crusty, slightly raised and rough I suppose. A wart maybe? It doesn't hurt. I dont have it anywhere else. Once in a while a thin layer of skin will peel up. It doesn't bleed (except once in a while when I pull that skin up and it's connected beyond the growth) Looks uniform in color. It's been there almost a year now. Any ideas on what i could be dealing with?

Thanks!
April

April, it sounds like an actinic keratosis. Do a web search for it and you can see some pics of what it looks like, and description of it.

Probably best to see your Dr. and see what he/she says, just to be safe.

Thanks for the responses. I see my dermatologist today (wed) so hopefully I will know a little more then!

Good, let us know what you find out. Places like those on your skin are hard to judge, unless a Dr. is looking directly at it.

Well, I can't say my curiousity is settled but here is what happened.

She said I can either scrape it and test it or freeze it off and see what happens. I froze it off. I don't know if that was the best thing to do! She said she is not sure if it's a wart or actinic keratosis.

We shall see.

Hopefully you are rid of it now. Doesn't sound worrisome.
