Robin,
I have no experience personally with this combination, but I have definitely heard of people who are Type 1 diabetics being given either glucophage or avandamet in addtion to their insulin.
I wasn't sure from your wording, but were you put on both Lantus and Lispro (Humalog). And are you counting carbs? The combination of Lantus and Humalog is often called "the poor man's pump", and while it's not quite as good as being on a pump, it definitely can help you achieve tighter control. You must, however, count carbs and test frequently.
Hopefully your new regimen will work out better for you and you'll be feeling better as a result of having tighter control over your blood glucose levels. Your new endo sounds like she's being proactive about helping you, and that sounds good!

Robin,
If you're dropping below 50 at every meal, it's possible that you're either overestimating your carbs and therefore bolusing too much Humalog, or your insulin to carb ratio isn't correct, and you need to decrease it. For example, if your current ratio is 1 unit of insulin to 10 grams of carb (1:10), you may need to change it to 1:12 or even 1:15.
You mentioned being on the pump, and that you didn't like it. What were your reasons? Have things changed so that you might now like the pump better? And how was your blood sugar control when you were on the pump?
There is no question at all that having diabetes can be a major pain in the you-know-where. It's time-consuming, frustrating, and people who don't have it (or who are not on insulin and/or medications) just don't seem to understand how much work it is to try to maintain tight control without also experiencing a lot of lows. For me the pump was like a gift straight from God, in that it eliminated all the peaks (both highs and lows) and has allowed me to achieve good control. It's not without its downside, though, as I now test 5-8 times a day (even more if my activity level is out of the ordinary); I count carbs, I spend a lot more time preparing foods than I used to, etc. But I keep trying to focus on the long-term goal, which is to minimize or eliminate any complications.
This and another board I'm on have given me so much support...it really does mean a lot. Do keep us posted Robin, and keep coming back, even if it's just to vent.

Mrs Ruth
Thanks a bunch it means a lot. Right now at this point in time im on a very strick diet. Im guessing that my doctor did this so that i dant have to count carbs just yet i dont think im ready to. Mostly just trying get my numbers where they once were (ohh so long ago).
i recently went back to my endo and we wound up droping the amout of lispro that im on at every meal. so were now hoping that this will hepl to stop the lows. Now i just have to be careful at night. Im on 2 pills a day one in the morning and one at night. So were just waiting and seeing what we are going to do next week.
I feel that i personaly was far to young to be on the pump(13) when i first went on it. I was 16 when i took myself off of it. At time i would like to one day go back on it now that i have more education and my life is stable. But i still want to get my life back first to see where i am. So maybe at the end of the year i can say guess what im on the pump again. Dont know have to wait and see.
Once again thanks for everything the suppot means the world to me. Helping out a lot you know
Robin
