I'm 3 months post FL and still very numb and tight in the neck and along my hairline where the stitches are. I still don't get a good night's sleep - I feel all clammy and damp - I have to keep my hair tied up and a cool fan running on my neck all night. During the day I don't notice it as much, but it's there all the time.
Also, I have wierd scars on the side of my neck - my skin is all lumpy - does this ever go away or will I have to live with it?
Also, I had a lower bleph and I have scars at the outer corners of my eyes. How long will these last?
I've asked my doc these questions but he just keeps saying, it's all normal, wait a year. I'd love to hear from someone who had these problems - how did they work out? Thanks!

It took me over a year to heal and scars to fade. The nerves must regenerate, which feel so wierd. I felt really strange for quite a while. You should not have any permanent scars around your eyes. If they stay, the p.s. can remove them. I am also very sensitive to this healing process. I hope I helped.

Dear Elaine, Were any of your scars lumpy? On my neck I have large patches of skin that's all lumpy - has deep grooves in it. I hope this doesn't last! Thanks for your reply. Good to know someone else has had these problems and that they eventually subsided.

My surgery wasn't as extensive as yours but I am experiencing quite a bit of post op numbness and tightness. I had an "open" browlift along with an U/L Blepharoplasty almost ten weeks ago (June 1, 2001). I am still experiencing numbness and a very tight feeling on the entire upper half of my head. It is debilitating, very annoying, and depresses me greatly. I was told that these symptoms should resolve after about 3 months but I have my doubts that they will. I have new info that it may take at least six months for these symptoms to subside, so try to hang in there.

It's good to hear from others with similar problems/issues as mine. I'm 5 weeks post op from facelift & U/L eyelifts, and have had some complications, as well. First a hematoma under the cheek, extending to the jawline. The Dr. could not aspirate it, and though it is better now, it is still quite swollen, even after a shot of cortisone. Most of the bruising is gone, however. On the other side of my face, I have large, hard lumps under the skin, extending from the cheek to the jawline, which the Dr. says is scar tissue. And, there is a nice crease running diagonally across my face from my eye through the lumps, as well. Very attractive, indeed! Overall, looking at my face from the front, the look is lop-sided, as the hematoma side is larger than the lumpy/creased side. Add that to the red, 1/2"-long scars around my eyes from the eyelift, and it's definitely not a pretty sight! Make up does help the scars & bruising, but the lumps & swelling still show up. My Dr. says to just wait it out, and it will all be OK, but gives me no time frame as to how long I'll have to wait. Sounds like from these articles that it could be a whole year. It's good to hear that I'm not the only one that has/had to wait for results MUCH longer than the surgeons estimated.

Hello. Sorry to hear about your problems.
I am 3 1/2 weeks post oper. I had the forehead, eyes, face and neck done.
The surgery was done by way of a locas anes, which took a total of 5 1/2 hours.
For the forhead the insisions were done at the hair line at the top and suchers were used, rather than staples. The facial stitches were removed after one week to prevent scaring and at the 3 1/2 week mark are healing very well. There is a very slight red line at the hairline. I have regained all feeling in my forhead. However on the top of my head there is no feeling yet. Sometimes my scalp feels itchy and when I try to scratch the itch I do not have have feeling. It is weird. Also when I run my fingers through my hair at the top portion of my head, my hair does not feel the same. It feels like a wig. I was told that that area can take up to a year to feel "normal" .
As far as the upper eyes. I was quite fortunate when the stiches were removed there was no excess tissue in the corners of each eye, nor was there any lumps at the end of the stiches. The scar from the cut which is in the crease of the eye is still a bit red but again healing very well.
The remaing face below the eyes to the chin. The sensation is slowly returning. Between the check bone and the ear the sensation is still not normal. But day by day it is slowly coming back.
The neck area is still tight. I feel like I am wearing a tight turtle neck. But again is is improving daily, The heat had really affected my neck area. I could not seem to cool that area down. PRobably the nerves are still healing.
All in all, my surgery went very well. My surgeon did tell me that we all heal at different rates. But hopefully I will be returning back to work in a couple of day. I took 4 weeks off, just to take it easy, but was up and and about after two weeks. I had very little bruising, and swelling.
One thing is though I am very happy with the operation and the results speak for themselves.
would I do it again. absolutely!!
Hang in there.
