Hi,

Welcome to the board. I have had T1 for 22 years and was diagnosed when I was 12. How old is your son? I started with the pump last August and love it. Is your son using a pump or injections? Any specific questions, let me know. Nice to meet you.

Sharon :)

He is 9, almost 10. He's on Lantus and humalog. Pen shots. We started on nph and I like the lantus much more even though it means more shots.

Hi Joopy, sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis but sounds like you've got it all figured - it's good he has support from you and you're making the effort to find a place like this.

I was diagnosed with T1 in Feb of this year, still on injections.

Anyway, welcome :)

I was diagnosed T1 in 1965 at the age of 12, and so have now gone 40 years with it. I am 53 years old, and still healthy and active, maintain all of my functioning in all respects, and suffer from no significant complications. I have been on the Lantus/Novolog combo for about the past 4 years, and NPH/Regular before that. I will say that, as a child, the one thing which got me thru my pre-teen and teen years was how disciplined my parents were back then--they took no crap from me, refused to treat me special or different or allow me or anyone to use my diabetes as any kind of excuse for anything. That prepared me to take it all on myself--and us childhood-onset T1's DO need to grow up fast. I have also been lucky enough to have spent the past 32 years with one very special woman, and my wife has supported me throughout--so i kind of went directly from my mother to my wife! Good luck with your son--in addition to hard work and iron will-power and self-discipline, luck is important...

Michael
