I have a very old fusion. Screws were used. I did have a MRI 16 years ago in spite of the screws. There was some areas that were distorted in the images. My doctor doesn't want to send me for an MRI because of my hardware. A ct scan that was done recently was very difficult to read because of the metal in my back. Anyone else had a mri with metal hardware. Old metal not some of the new stuff that has been made for compatible for imagery.

Thanks for any input.

You might want to ask about getting an "MRI with contrast." That's where they would do a normal MRI and then the one after you have had a Gadolinium compound injected into your bloodstream. I don't know if it will work for your situation, but it couldn't hurt to ask.

Sounds kind of like what I had done about a month ago... 4 months post fusion w/ screws & rods and they did an MRI and halfway through gave me a dye injection of some sort... Images were still kinda hard to read but I guess they did the trick...
