Sorry I haven't been on in awhile for those who still know me out there! I have been on these oxycontins for my back for almost two months now and I was tricked into thinking that it was going to be this wonder pill that made my back pain go away...almost. Instead I can't go a day without taking a pill and I have horrible side effects with taking them and I've just had enough. I am in my third week at my new job and I can not go through withdrawls off these things and feel the way I would feel without taking one...it just wouldn't be flattering. So I am going to the dr's on Wednesday afternoon. Here's where the question comes in! I want off these Oxy's...I don't want to feel any kind of pain from withdrawls but i want my back pain to go away as well. Will Methadone treat both symptoms? I wanted to ask anyone on here that's experienced this before so I go in confident and sure with my doctor. I am seeing all the signs of dependency and I don't like having to take a pill every day...I just hate it. Thanks to all of you who have hung in there through this update. I've just not been myself lately enough to even come on the computer. My back is the center of my world right now and it sucks...always hurting...it just gets in the way of all the good things to feel out there...always being in pain just sucks the life out of you...it really does! Well I hope that everyone is doing well and I pray that there have been some success stories being told out there that I've missed out on. How about it...does anyone have something terrific to tell me? I would love to be uplifted by someone's good news! Thanks to all...and God Bless!

im on methadone 10mg 3 times a day plus 1 30 mg cymbalta, oxycotin made me so sick i was wishing i was dead. the cymbalta is a nerve pill for depression but with the methadone really relieves my pain, no side effects so far just a better mode. my doc said with extreme pain he would be surprised if i wasnt depressed. hope this helps might be something to ask doc about. good luck

I'm sure your doctor will have some good advise. I don't know if the methadone will take away all withdrawal symptoms, but it should surely help a lot while also easing the back pain, especially if some of it is nerve pain. My question to you though is this....is the oxycontin relieving a lot of the pain? What are the side effects you are having and what dose are you on? I was thinking that maybe the doc could give you something to ease the side effects and maybe raise the dosage to give you better relief. I wouldn't worry about the physical dependency. It happens to all of us if we are on an opioid for any length of time. But, if you need to come off the oxy, another opioid that might work for you is mscontin.
Hope this helped a little bit; good luck to you however you decide to do this.

Thanks to all that responded. I went to the doctor and it didn't go like I planned. He is the doctor...so of course I need to do what he reccommends. He said that since it took so long for me to find a pill (oxy) that worked...I need to stick to it...he doubted very highly that the methodone would do anything for my pain since all the other opiods didn't work. He did however up my dosage to 3 per day of the 80mg and he also put me on the symbalta (spelling?) for depression. It's made me very nausious though...anyone else every tried this new script before? My doc says that the side effects will go away after about a week though. So I have my ortho appt on Tueday to find out what the latest and greatest discogram reults showed and what I need to do as far as surgery to get my back fixed....so I hope that its nothing major that needs to be done...I'm really scared about that. I hope everyone is doing well...I'm about to read up on everyones latest.....hugs and love.

Diva, I saw your post yestersay and started to reply and realized it was to late you had already gone to the dr.
I have heard some really goood things about cymablata and it is being used a lot in pain management for help with nerve pain also.
I hope the meds help soon and that you begin to get relief.
