I have an 8 yr old that we just put on Concerta 18mg. We switched him from10mg of ritalin because of the stomach ache, and we saw no change in his attention. His teacher said that he cried 5 differnt times in school today,
This is not a side effect that we were expecting. Anyone else expierence this with their kids?
I am new to this forum and am very thankful for all the insight and information I have seen here tonight.

When my son first started on Ritalin, he was very weepy and startled easily. It was easily corrected by lowering the dose. Good luck! Sue

The thing is he is on a low dose and we do not see any change in his ability to concentrate. Not sure how much longer we should give it? How long before you saw a change n your son?

I Can Help
I been on concerta for like three years and I just read this thing about it kind of scary if you ask me!
Side effects of concerta
Deppression, twiching of any part of the body, saying words over and over again, abnormal thoughts or visions, and abnormal sounds.
It said if any of these things happen to your kid you should tell your doc right away o.k.

the whole thing is like a ---- shoot. My older boy was on adderall and we felt that it caused severe depression in him. Now that son is on ritalin and the depression is much better. I don't think my 8yr old is depressed just very emotional over trival things. Not sure how much longer to give it. Thanks for your feedback, would love to hear more.

Hello again...my second thought was that maybe Ritalin isn't the right med for him; I have ADHD as well as my son, and it took trials with three different meds before I ended up on my current one, Dexedrine (which works very well for me). I'd definitely talk to your son's doctor about it. It's not easy for your son, or for you, I'm sure.

Hi,
New to this board and new to ADD. I have been on Concerta 18 mg for 3 days and I noticed the difference 10 min. after I took the first pill. It is working great for me, at least so far. I am a 52 yr old women so I don't know about kids.
My Dr. said the same thing though- if I suffered ANY side affects to stop immediately and call her. The side affects I was told about were, nervousness, increase of rapid thoughts, dizzyness, complusiveness, and headache. I have had none of the affects. I was also told, I would notice the difference right away.
I would suggest calling your doctor and seeing what he/she says. Good luck.

Thanks for the feed back, we took him off the meds, and he is his normal happy, spacey self. We see the Dr. this week I guess adderall might be the next step.
