just yesterday i was chewing on a pen cap and one of my upper back teeth broke. I spit out a huge chunk of the side of my upper third from the back tooth. I am freaking out. It never hurt before, and I still feel no pain. It's not just a chip. I feel like and also look like I am missing half a tooth.I have never a problem with my teeth before now. please help

Is it a broken tooth in the front of your teeth or in the back?
This has happenend to my younger daughter quite often lately. She has this difficulty because her wisdom teeth are coming in and forcing pressure on the rest of her teeth because her mouth is too tiny.

Try to see a dentist to be evaluated. The cause for your situation is likely different and your broken tooth may easily be fixed.

There could be a variety of reasons why the tooth broke. Did you have a large amalgam filling there? I find these are the worst culprits--large alloy fillings that expand coupled with the biting forces evetually crack the tooth. Then sooner or later it fractures. See your dentist immediately. If it has decay (could be under the filling), you don't want it to get worse and need a root canal. You might, however, need a crown or an onlay.

Good luck

Or, if the tooth has one or more fractured roots, it will have to be extracted. (I speak, alas, from personal experience.)

I have no fillings, and the outer side of the tooth is what broke off. I can pretty much see the inside of that tooth. The jagged edges of my tooth hits the side on my left cheek and kinda scratches it. When I look at it, it looks serious but it still do not hurt. It really grosses me out.

the same thing happened to me with a wisdom tooth. at first it was a small space on the side and it got bigger and bigger. and then i noticed it smelled. i just got them extracted a ffew days ago so no more plm with that. but i had that tooth decayed like that for at least 5 months and never felt any pain. i guess i was lucky.
