Ok, here is my problem... i had bad teeth to begin with, then having children didn't help. So I've had this one really bad tooth for a while, but has never really given me much pain. Well, yesterday a big piece of it broke off. It still doesn't hurt, but now I'm having a runny nose with green smelly mucos and a fever (sorry to gross you out). I've tried taking sudafed for the runny nose, but it doesn't help, i've also bought Listernine thinking it's the most powerful and should help, but it doesn't. I don't have dental insurance so I'm trying to get into our local clinic, but the first appt i can get is in 2 weeks. Granted, I get colds, but I think it's too much of a coincendece that this is just a cold, cause i've never had the smelly mucos before when i've had a cold. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of it, till i can at least get to the dentist? I've got a call into my family doc to see if they can call me in some antibiotics, cause I'm pretty sure i'll need them, but I can't stand this smell, and it seems to be getting worse...
any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

Hello there:)
Just wondering...is an upper tooth that has the problem? If so, you may want to visit the orologist and have your sinuses scanned. It could be a sinus problem affecting the tooth or the tooth causing the sinus infection. Just an idea. If it is a lower tooth, no idea...could be a coincidence. It may do you peace of mind to have some bloodwork done if your doctor is free earlier than your dentist. Your blood would reveal whether or not your body is fighting an infection.
Take care and stay strong!

thank you... it is an upper tooth, i went to my family doctor and he gave me a antibiotic. Thankfully my dentist appointment is a week from today, but it seems like the antibiotic is clearing up whatever the problem was. But don't worry, i'm still going to the dentist!

How does blood work reveal whether you are fighting an infection? that is news to me. I sure would love to find out in my case since my doctors are telling me that my body is fighting severe infection of gums. I don't believe it but I sure would love to know.
May I know what is this test called?

I think the blood test they were talking about was just a WBC (white blood cell count). If you have an infection your white blood cells are usually higher than normal which is signs of infection.
