Do you think being lazy comes with diabetes...or....what? I am borderline.
Sometimes exercise helps, sometimes, Not!
My spouse is an sober alcoholic now, so I am sure I am also just burned out from life experiences. Anyone find anything that helps, supplements? etc.
Any replies, thanks!

I don't think it's always laziness. Ok, sometimes it is, but generally, I think that overwhelming covers it better. I find for myself that changing things one thing at a time and not all at once helps.

Add, one good thing to your diet (eg, more vegies) then take away one bad thing (I gave up my 'bad' snack at work of a bag of Fritos). Add the exercise the same way. I added one flight of stairs at work on Monday and Wednesdays. Later, I added to it.

This was quite a while ago, but it did help me to slowly change what I was doing overall.

Good luck.

If I was lazy, I'd be dead 25 years ago. The less aggressively you manage your diabetes, the more quickly it progresses--and then the harder it is to treat and the MORE energy it takes to control. So don't wait--start NOW! And since I have been aggressively and energetically managing my diabetes for 40 years, I'd have to respectfully reject the theory that diabetes somehow 'causes' laziness! I think that the harder one works at self-control, the less lazy one gets. What helps is just this knowledge--that the tendancy to ignore the demands of diabetes only makes everything worse over the long run--and this IS a long run. This is not necessarily a death sentence, but it IS a life sentence, and you will have to deal with it until you die. If you fail to deal with it, then you will die OF it, and sooner rather than later.

SO--put your heart and soul, time and energy, will-power and self-discipline into controlling and managing this disease. Your efforts will be well rewarded with many decades of health and well-being. After 40 years of diabetes, I suffer from no major complications, and consider myself in many cases healthier than most of my peers, probably because I HAVE taken such good care of myself, watching my diet, weight, exercise, etc. so carefully over the course of this. I also owe much of my success to my regular practice, for the past 35 years, of meditation and yoga, which allows me to empty myself daily and just sit in silence and calm, still the pace of life, re-charge my batteries and gain the strength and focus I require to do this difficult task of life with diabetes.

It may not be laziness. Diabetes can make a person just feel tired. The more you have your sugar in control, the less of this you should feel.

As for exercise, with my job, I have had a hard time finding the time to do it, but I've gotten a pedometer, and make sure I find time at work to even walk an extra 1000 steps. I also do some arm exercises with 2- and 5- pound weights at home at night.

It might be time to have your A1c reading, to see how your sugar control is these days. As for supplements, there are some reports that cinnamon may be helpful in lowering blood sugar a bit. I got a month's supply at my local GNC store for under $10.
