Hi, I got a really bad sunburn on my back and shoulders last friday and for a week I could barely move, now the skin is so tight on my shoulders and peeling and cracking that I cant stand it I can barely stand to touch it still... The skin is actually fried and flaky does anyone know anything that will mosturize this without burning the raw skin more or how to help it come off easier? :bouncing:

If the skin is peeling after it has healed I got a jute body brush from Crabtree and Evelyn which has worked really well. It will hurt if the sunburn hurts though. It was about 20 dollars for the small one. Good Luck!

I would try using some aloe vera gel if you haven't already. I recently got a bad sunburn, so bad that my entire upper back/shoulder area is blistering. Yuck! I swear by the aloe vera gel, I just have my parents slather it on (gently) and then lay down under a ceiling fan with the skin exposed and it really cools the area down. It moisturizes it too!
As for the peeling skin, that you just need to wait out. You should let the skin peel naturally, no picking at it. That could cause it to get infected because peeling it off yourself can expose more raw skin than intended.
As for the skin being tight, this is what I do if it is tight on my back, like now. I straighten out my arms in front of me and clasp my hands. Then I slouch my back. Keeping my arms straight and my hands clasped together, I kind of pull my arms apart (still keeping the hands clasped) - this gives a good stretch of the skin without touching it.
Good luck!

There are some really good moisturizers that contain aloe vera too, which may help soften the skin as well as heal it. Also, for the future, if you ever get sunburnt again, they have aloe vera with benzocaine, which will numb the pain , too. Good for other burns as well.

My son had 3rd degree burns on his chin and chest when he was 2. (decided to taste grandmas hot tea!) His skin actually came off. He was in the burn unit at the hospital. They thought we would have to have grafting done. He was wrapped in gauze with a cortisone cream for 5 days. Then guess what the plastic surgeon (burn specialist/dermatologist) had me put on him. Nivea. Plan old Nivea. It worked like a charm. He even gave me a tube of it. The blue one. I went out and bought the tub of it. He did not need grafting or any surgery. You cant even tell he was ever burned. I had to put it on him 2x a day for 3 weeks. Try it. (of coarse check with your doc first)
Good Luck.
Good Luck.
