View Full Version : Question regarding adult ADD...

Okay, I just stumbled upon this website today but so far it's been very interesting. I've always had a feeling I've had ADD but never mentioned it to anyone because I was hoping it would just go away. Now I'm 22 years old and have been seeing so many commercials for the new medications they're coming out with these days. I took a quiz to see if I had symptoms earlier today and just as I suspected, it says I probably do have it. My question is how do you go about talking to someone about it? What type of doctor do you call and what exactly do you say? I don't have a lot of money so I'm trying to think of the least expensive way to find out for sure and possibly get medication. I'm going into the Army soon *hopefully* and once I get in, I'm starting school again and I'll never make it if I don't get this taken care of. Thanks to anyone who helps!

Hi,

I have heard that your MD can diagonse and get you meds. I am seeing a phscoligist (sp) and he sent me to a physycatrist (sp) that works with him. She can prescribe meds and was the one that told me I had ADD.

Check with your MD's office and ask what they recommend. Good luck. :)

Thanks, I'll do that. I'm going into the Army hopefully so I'm going to wait until after I'm finished with Basic Training and everything because I don't want to mention it before then. That might not be the greatest idea.

Having/being diagnosed with ADHD can disqualify one for enlistment. There are other rules that come into play (such as aptitude scores, medication that you are using, etc), but, theortically, you can be disqualified for enlistment. So, it would be a good idea to find out if you'd be disqualified before you attempt to use the army for diagnosis/treatment.
