i just got Mirena a week ago. the first day i had very little cramping and then it stopped. i had very little spotting for the first 4-5 days, nothing since then. this morning i was feeling great, but early this afternoon i was hit with some very sharp cramping in my lower abdomen, i felt like somebody was stabbing at my uterus. it was extremely painful. the pain even made me lightheaded and nauseous. i was going to call my doctor, but i took 2 ibuprofin and ate some lunch, now i'm feeling fine again.

could this sharp cramping be a complication from the Mirena? should i be concerned? should i go see my doctor even though i'm feeling better now?

also, does Mirena cause an increased appetite? it seems that ever since i got it, my appetite has increased a lot. i'm really afraid of gaining all the weight back that i just lost.

Hi,

Probably what you are feeling is the UID adjusting to your body. I have the Paragard(no hormones one) and for the first few days I felt the same. Also, when I have started my period i would feel it. the Mirena does have hormones in it so, that is maybe why you feel hungry more often. I would give it some more time for your body to get used to it. Good luck.

that really put my mind at ease. the ibuprofin has long wore off, and i still feel fine. i'm a little sore in my lower abdomen, but thats not a big deal.

thanks :)
