Has anyone had what feels like internal trembling?
When I went to bed last night I had that feeling, and it lasted until about 1 AM. I wasn't shaking on the outside at all, but could feel waves of what I can only describe as nerves inside. I guess it could be similar to having too much caffeine, but I don't drink coffee at all. The only caffeine I have is in diet coke, but drank that about noon so I wouldn't think that was the cause.
Anyone else have this before? Is it perimenopause related?

Yes, it is. Just one of the few lovely symptoms a lot of us get. I call it my own personal earthquake. I can also equate it with being dunked in a glass of gingerale.
Kind of like little bubbles all over your insides???

i have had that also. Mine feels like i am actually shaking and it is usually only from the waist up. I don't have it when i go to bed, but i will wake up with it during the night and sometimes when i start to wake up in the morning i will feel it,but when i wake up completely the internal trembling goes away...I was hoping that it was not the starting of Parkinson's disease.

When my perimenopause symptoms became severe the internal shakes or what I call the "jitters" was one of the first symptom to appear. Of course it didn't come by itself there was also anxiety, panic attacks, and a long list of other delightful (NOT) symptoms.

Yes, yes, yes! This was one of my worse symptom! Thank goodness I don't have them anymore. I called them "internal shakes." It hit me the most in the middle of the night while in bed. It would always wake me up and I would feel this sensation like shaking nerves vibrating up and down my entire body. It is the weirdest thing esp. to people who never experienced it. It is like you are having this deep internal anxiety attack, or too much caffeine inside of you and you don't see anything on the outside shaking. I hated it! I got to the point where I would be afraid to go to sleep b/c I wouldn't know if it would hit me that night again or not. The longest I had it at one time was from about 1 a.m. till 6 a.m. At the time, I was also trying not to take any anxiety meds b/c of all the stuff of heard about dependency on it and when I think back, I should've just taken it. I do think I took 1/2 pill once to see if it got things settled down and it did help. My heart goes out to you if you're going thru this!!!

I have this problem too, bigtime. It makes it hard for me to relax and go to sleep at night. It also seems to be accompanied by anxiety symptoms, butterflies in my stomach, palpitations, etc. Sometimes it only goes away after I cry or go into a full blown panic attack. This only started about 2 months ago. Before that I was OK. God I hope it goes away soon. I am hopeful because it is not so bad tonight. I'm really tired.

Well, as annoying as it is....I'm glad that someone else is able to understand what I'm talking about. I tried to explain it to my husband, but he just looked at me like I was nuts.
Like one of the posts suggested....I was hoping that it wasn't something serious like Parkinsons or MS. A couple weeks ago I had a twitch in my left thumb that lasted a couple days, and that had me concerned too.
I really appreciate your imput. Sure is hard to relax enough to sleep when you feel like you are plugged into a light socket!
Have a good night everyone!!!

Hi everyone, I have had those internal shakes too - but mine weren't at night - they were during the day. I could only describe it as that it felt like my nerves inside were crawling - but I am sure we're talking about the same thing. It was usually when I was really nervous and anxious. Right now it's hard to remember exactly what it felt like, but not pleasant, that's for sure. Wonder what causes that? It's so strange!

YES! And sometimes along with it my right eye will twitch like mad. Drives me crazy. When this particular symptom first started it scared the daylights out of me. Sometimes it will last for only a short time, but sometimes it can go on for hours, and be pretty intense.

Hi,
Yes I have got this feeling too and it is scary when you first get it as it seems to come out of the blue. I did take an anxiety med when I first experienced it, a xanax and it seemed to help. I have not had this feeling often but I empathize as it is so unsettling!!
Take care,

Hi Babydog (what a cute username!!)
To answer your question, the Paxil CR helped me feel better overall immediately. I don't think it got rid of the internal shakes specifically. Think it helped me manage or handle things better. I know that I felt better enough where I was able to sit long enough to do research on the net and there's where I found out that others had the same thing and they even called it "internal shakes". The ladies on that board all recommended to take Magnesium and from there I started taking it regliously. To this day, I still do because I am so scared it would come back. I started with 500 mg during the day and 500 mg at bedtime.
I also had the eye twitching thing that lasted for weeks, which was not the normal eye twitching one would get. In the past, it would only last a day or two.
Those of you worried about MS - I have read if a woman have MS it would often if not always hit them around age 35-36 and it's usually numbness. A friend of mine underwent lots of tests for MS and was told the same thing.

The other twitches must be connected to the "jitters" too. I've had the eye lid twitches a couple times, and then a couple weeks ago I had my thumb doing it. Those were very annoying, but they didn't frighten me as much as that feeling through my whole body did.
Gee...I wonder if we burn extra calories during the shakes? hahaha :)

This was my biggest, biggest issue with perimenopause. OMG, not only did I have the internal shakes and jitters, i had them in my hands, and also had and still get the muscle twitches and eye twitches on and off. I try not to pay attention to them but at times, they are so annoying. I take Prozac and have Xanax when I need it. I haven't take it in a years time but lately I've been so anixious, almost feel like I should take it. I hold off because it can be so addictive. Anyways, 1 year and some months later, I am still a raging on and off peri-baby with periods so off course, sometimes it's not even worth getting one. Also, even after getting one, sometimes my hormones are worse than before I got it. LOL Lately, I've been feeling so on edge and feel trambley occasionally again, hate this feeling, but I just try my hardest to get through it, remind myself it's just the peri, won't die from it although sometimes it feels that way! I have been checked out so many times, I could go in the world's guinness book on having more than enough thyroid tests. I am flying to Germany in August and then to Jordan. God, I haven't even got there yet and I am jittery about that too and use to fly like a winner. Guess I will definitely have to xanax or maybe switch to Ativan for that ordeal. And so is my jittery story.

I have internal trembling at night, I usually notice it when falling asleep or when waking up. I also have had them taking a nap during the day. Sometimes wakes me up in the middle of the night, but I'm only 32, so I don't think it's perimenopause. The skaking isn't visible. I have neurocardiogenic syncope (NCS - means my heart races and I feel faint at times) and I take 25mg of Atenolol a day for that, but I had these internal shakes before taking any medication, but it has been since having NCS. They go away when I fully wake up. I've asked my cardiologist and my neurologist about it and they think it's anxiety related do to my condition. I've never considered myself an anxious person, I'm usually pretty layed back. However, I guess this condition could be causing the anxiety. I'm pretty healthy otherwise. It's nice to know there are others experiencing this as well as I was worried it was something more serious also.

Yes, I've had all the normal blood tests for everything related -- all normal. I've had two ECHO's in the last 7 months, both normal. I had a tilt table test which was positive which is how I got the NCS diagnoses. I've been on a beta blocker since the end of December. I usually have the internal trembling worse after I have felt faint. I guess that could be causing the anxiety.

Hello again,
I posted the other day when you wrote this but had to write as this weekend I had this same thing again after not having it for a long while. I got my period at day 38 and had no symptoms till the day of when I got it and then got cramps and that night had the internal shakes or jitters. There is no rhyme or reason for it , it seems. Just the hormones bouncing around!!

Ainfante..Andrea!!
Just thought I'd say hello to you as I saw you had posted. It was good to see your name.
I know what you mean about not having taken the xanax in awhile and then feel you may have to. I had not taken them in a long while and found this year I needed to again, especially Feb/March. Now I am doing better but have no idea really why, the ways of the hormones seem to be a mystery!!
I am still getting periods too and they are not real spaced out yet. Had the most recent one at day 38 this month after many at day 20 something all last year and this year. I remind myself many times what you said last year and in this post that it is "just peri". It is hard at times for sure.
That is great you are going to Germany in August and Jordan!! I am sure that it will be a great trip!!
anyway, good to see you post and hear from you.
Take care,

Hi everyone.....I too have those awful full body internal shakes, usually in the first few hours of going to bed.
I am wondering if you ladies ever get twitching in your cheek (face) ? I have posted before about eye twitching, lip twitching and ever other twitch you can imagine, but this one is sooo annoying. My cheek beside my nose twitches and I can even see without looking in the mirror as my vision picks it up. Anyone else?? Thanks

Hey there! Wow, that anxiety  I also suffered Post trauma from a car accident 3 years ago. So the trip to Germany/Jordan is a big deal for me. But I know it's part of my perimenopause fear too, coz when we go through the change and anxiety is a part of that, fear plays a role here for some reason. So good to hear from you. Glad to hear you are feeling better. I am in and out of this anxiety quite a bit lately. Stay in touch.

Andrea,
Thanks for your response and it is , as I said, good to see your name in here!!
I know...the anxiety is really awful!! Last year as you know I was struggling with it big time, but I think the difference is that last year (earlier in the year) I didn't realize that a lot of symptoms were peri related so that was causing a lot of anxiety naturally. Thankfully thru going to the gyn, reading lots and coming to this board and talking to people like YOU...I came to find out that a lot of people were going thru the same thing and it was not serious but just peri as you said. But the xanax did help me when I needed to take it. Then for 8 or 9 months I seemed to be better, still anxious at times but not rampant like before. Then this year it cropped up big time again and made symptoms more pronounced. As I said I really do not know how it calmed down a bit in the past month or so but I am not complaining. Just looking over my shoulder at times thinking it might be coming back, which I know is not good.
I can imagine that with what you have been thru the trip is a very big deal and causes anxiousness. But it will be wonderful when you get there. I know last year I was going on a trip for my 50th right when I was going thru the peri anxiety full force and you and KC (remember her? I often wonder how she is doing) told me that it would all be fine. It was. But it was hard beforehand leading up to the trip. I am a very anxious flyer to begin with and so take xanax when I fly and it does help.
Anyway I can relate and relate to being "in and out of anxiety" at times.
Hope you will stay in touch.
Take care,
rmc

Hey RMC, how much xanax did you take? It seems I can only take a little otherwise it makes me really zonky. I am so anxious today, feel like my whole body is tenser than a wire. Really looking at that Xanax bottle again. I have cramps too, not to start my period for a while yet. Oh God, here I go again!

Ainfante,
Try .25 mg of xanax. If your pills are a higher dose, cut them in half or whatever. I find I can take .25mg with no issues, but anything higher puts me to sleep. It should take the edge off when you are experiencing major anxiety.

Hi Andrea,
Sorry to hear that you are having an anxious day and believe me I have been there. Today I was on the edge with it too as I just did not feel as good as I have been and I keep thinking "oh, no, here we go again" as you said too!!
You asked about the xanax..I take .25 mg. if at night when I have needed to , but when I was really bad with anxiety and I had to take it during the day I halfed the pill since a whole one during the day made me as you said "zonky"!!
I can relate too to the cramps when our periods are not due yet. I got mine this month at day 38 and I was having some cramps at day 22. But they went away. Then my period just snuck up on me and I had no cramps or anything and it appeared. That was just about 5 days ago. Flow is gone but I am feeling like I would if I am ovulating!! I have had that happen before so I know it is just the way it is at this time, but nonetheless frustrating.
When I think to myself that you and I and others were discussing this all last year probably at this time I think...this is getting OLD!! LOL!! Not the part about you and I and everyone talking of course...what I mean is dealing with these symptoms is getting old!! I know you can relate.
Hope you are doing better tonight and have an even better day tomorrow!!
Take care,

Gee...I think I've missed that particular twitch. That must really be annoying!!! How long does it last???
I had my eye and thumb twitches for a couple days, but the body one was just 5 or so hours.

Thanks everyone! And thanks RMC. I have the .5 mg. too. I will definitelyuse it on my trip, lol Today is better, still feel like I amgetting my period, way too early for this feeling, but not as anxious as yesterday. Maybe it was the full moon, I hear full moons pull on the uterus, even bring on periods, lol Twitching is better today, i relate all this to the meno. Iknow it is, even though at times we just can't accept this nutty feeling.

Andrea,
Glad you are doing better today. I am better today than I was early in the week also. Never seems to be a rhyme or reason to it. You are right that it is all peri but it is hard to believe that at times.
Never heard that about the full moon!! LOL!! Will have to see if that is the case for me!!
Take care,
rmc
