Well as some of you probably know, I have been having horrible symptoms since I stopped Yasmin 2 months ago- increased acne (on face, arms, back and neck), increased hair growth (on chin and mustache), no period and SEVERE hair loss (like 300 plus per day). Naturally, this has also lead to extreme depression and anxiety. I saw the GYN last week and after 30 minutes convinced her to check my hormones. She insisted that it was just anxiety causing my hair to fall out, but reluctantly agreed to run the tests. And of course, my tests came back abnormal. My DHEAS came back 312 and my tesosterone came back really high 1.09 (normal range 0.17-0.76). The GYN only ordered the Total testosterone and not the free testosterone...idiot. SHe didn't even have the nerve to call to tell me my results. I called and the nurse told me. Becuase the results were abnormal, she told me she would have the doctor call me. She didn't. She had the nurse call me to tell me that they would be referring me to an endocrinologist. It gets worse...Because my mom works at the same clinic, the endocrinologist had the nerve to tell my mom to tell me that my results aren't that high and that it probably isn't PCOS, so I should just wait another 6 months until the pill is out if my system. Are they crazy!!! I will be bald my then. I have been calling, because I want an official appt, but they aren't calling back. I really think I have PCOS and that these symptoms will just get worse over time (possibly the Yasmin for 3 years was blocking the androgens and preventing these symptoms). I really don't want to go back on Yasmin, because of the horrible side effects, but still want to know my other options. What should I do? Please help...

Oh my, it sounds like everyone in your situation is totally out of order and have no sense of client service or care. I'd find a whole new crop. I just found out that I've a growth of some sort on my pituitary that was causing all my strange symptoms and now I am on medication. I really wish you the best because it sounds like the docs aren't taking you serious and we all should be taken seriously because we know our bodies and we know when they're not working like they should.

I am so glad they found out what was wrong with you. I remember some of your eariler posts and the horrors you were going through. Hopefully someone will eventually figure out what is wrong with me.

Blood results are not the only factor is diagnosing PCOS. My blood came back normal for the most part. My testosterone was even normal......and I have hair growing in all sorts of places. What confirmed my diagnosis was the ultrasound and my symptoms. You should find another doctor. It sounds to me like you have PCOS.

Hi Kay,
I'm soo sorry to read about the problem you have been having. I have posted before and my problems as well. I saw a Endo just a couple of days ago, and she thought that 3 months(since getting off depo) was not long enough to see what was causing my hair loss. I also thought at one point that i had PCOS, but i never had iregular periods till going on depo and i don't show the classic signs of it. I would suggest getting the ultrasound. I think thats the best way to rule out PCOS. Let us know on how everything goes. And make sure that you take everything easy. All i did was stress out for months and it didn't help. Good luck

hey kay,
I'm going through a similar struggle right now. I have a diagnosis of PCOS in November. But I have no cysts. I've researched and asked many doctors, and they all say cysts aren't necessarily present on all patients with PCOS. Just something to keep in mind. I hope you get some answers. I'm trying to get a referral to an endo as we speak. If I read anything or learn anything new I'll let you know. Good luck.

Any good endocrinologist would look at your symptoms and your abnormal blood tests and CHECK MORE HORMONES. It could be CAH, PCOS, or Cushings. They all mimic eachother. Or a thyroid problem. Some of the hormones you might want to consider asking them to test: 17 hydroxy progesterone, androstenedione, pregnanetriol, tsh, t-3, t-4, and cortisol. My testosterone isn't that high either (though it is elevated). That discovery (and a diligent endocrinologist) led us to discover Cushings Disease.
