View Full Version : Migrating Joint Pain & Positive RF: Please HELP

I am writing this for my fiance. A healthy, athletic 37 yo man.

About 2 months ago, he started getting severe joint and tendon pain in various places. One night it would be in his ankle, then the next day that would be gone and it would be in his knee. Then within a day or less that would feel better and the pain would be in his knuckles (The joints were visibly red and swollen). Ever since, he has continued "migrating" joint pain and swelling. He has no real morning stiffness, in fact his pain worsens in the afternoon at night. By the end of the day, he may not even be able to turn the ignition on his car.

He went to his doctor last week, after finaling realizing it wasnt from overuse, and they did a full blood workup. His RF came back 28 (0-20 normal range). he is now being referred to a Rheumy.

I guess I was just wondering a few things:

1). Is migrating pain that recovers and moves that quickly common with RA?
2). Anyone have any other ideas what could cause his symptoms and gove a positive RF? Are there more than one type of arthritis that would cause the positive RF and his Symptoms?
3.) He has had chronic lung problems (COPD/Brochiectasis) since childhood, and is on Cipro (antibiotics) 4-5 months out of the year (as needed and prescribed by Dr) and Advair year round. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of antibiotic overuse causing RA?

Thank you for anyone who can shed any light for us. I am just concerned about him and want to educate us both.

I have the exact same symptoms and went to a rheumatologist last week. He said I have palindromic rheumatism. I have to go back after some blood tests next week, but I have checked the disease out on the internet and it seems to match. I must be in remission since about a week ago because I feel a great deal better.

Since this is the first time I have been on this site I am not sure how it works, but I would like to hear from you about your boyfriend's diagnosis.
