Hello

I'm going to be having a breast reduction as soon as I'm told I can (I'm on a waiting list in the UK), and I had a few questions for the women that have been thru this already.

I am aware of the risks, pain, etc, and I know that I'm not supposed to lift heavy things for at least 3 weeks afterward. The things I'd like to know though are: How do I look after my son? I can't lift him, but is there a way I can cuddle him anyway? And roughly, how long was your recovery times? Any real experience stories will be helpful http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif

THANK YOU!!!!

Amy -
Of course there are ways to cuddle with your son without picking him up or holding him close. How you do it depends on how old he is... He can lay next to you and hold hands, he can put his head in your lap and you can stroke his hair...

Recovery time - that depends on what procedure was done and what you mean by recovered! And of course it varies by person.

Couple of words of advice that were passed along to me - don't bother buying any "frilly" smaller bras until you're at least 8 weeks out of surgery. Swelling can lead to improper fits. And the lace was very irritating...

Stock up on the supportive athletic bras - when you find one that fits well and is comfortable, buy a bunch! As much as you want "the girls" to "run free", you'll find sometimes it's less painful to keep them "caged" in a support bra....

Good luck on your surgery.

I am 18 years old, and I got my breast reduction done in Dec of last year, so almost 5 months ago....and I have never been happier in my whole entire life!! I was a large DD and went down to a full B cup.....in all 3 pounds taken out! I had never had surgery before so for me that was the scariest part. I must say this: The only time I EVER felt alot of pain was when I FIRST woke up from the surgery, just because it was so different from when I went to sleep. When I was wheeled back to my hospital room after being in the recovery room, whenever I sat up I IMMEDIETLY felt a huge relief off of my chest! I looked in the mirror and saw how little the bra they had on me was and I just wanted to cry! The owrst thing about the whole surgery was getting sick from the anesthia. I would have to say on a scale of 1-10 on the pain, it would be about a 1 at the most...more than anything it was just uncomfortable...I couldn't lift your arms, and I just felt like I needed to protect them. Also, I had to sleep on my back for the longest time. It was the strangest feeling the first time I took a shower, I crossed my arms in front of me to protect them! I took some pain medication at first because they told me too, but after day 1 I didn't take anything, not even tylenol. I was up and about 2 days later, I was just careful about what I did. I ordered a tube top bathing suit on the internet and just got it and it fit me!!! I was so happy!! I would go with the advice about having a few VERY comfortable sports type bras that snap in the front, also I put vitamin E oil on my scars everyday. I LOVE MY BREASTS NOW!! My PS did such a beautiful job!! I hope this helped, if you have any more specific questions, I will be happy to help!!!!
