Depending on your age, the site of the break may never stop hurting when pressure is applied to the area where it broke. I broke my wrist in 2003, and it still hurts at the site and swells occasionally. I am 54.

Do you have screws or anything? Or did they just set it and cast it?
Usually 6 months is about the time you should see some improvement in pain and mobility (if you've had PT).
Describe your situation a little more - how large a break and surgery?
You might need to get a second opinion at this point.

hi hrtofluv,
I came right over after reading your response to me in the Cancer section. I didn't know if you'd go back there.
Thank you so much for your help. I know no one can tell like a dr. but I was hoping that someone has experience or knows something.
I have a mammogram on Friday. I am 36 and have had them for 2 years now. Thanks for asking :-)
The thing in my arm is the strangest thing. I just don't know what signs to look for when it comes to cancer. People say you'll know when you lose weight but my aunt at 69 who had uterine cancer and died this May didn't lose a pound. So there goes that theory. The part around the swelling on my arm is NOT red. I don't even know if it's worse than last year but it appears that way to me. The thing is maybe it's in my mind since my aunt died? I don't know. I am going mad wondering if these are real lumps or pains or if it's in my mind. There DEFINITELY is a huge swelling - my husband saw it, the dr.'s saw it, etc. My obgyn last week said oh it's nothing. She thinks it's a fatty tissue but she didn't even touch it - just looked at it. I didn't tell her it hurt because this is not her field. I will follow up, I just wanted some advice on what are signs of cancer? What should I look out for or not look out for?

Hi, Sorry it took me so long to respond back...
Ok, ive got one rod in and 2 screws one around the knee area and one down around the ankle..It was a large break...Both bones were snapped in half and i think when they went in to clean the area they took about an inch and half of my bone..B/c I noticed a BIG gap in my bone "x ray"..I was in surgery for 2 hrs and had to stay in the hospitial for 4 days so they could keep an iv of antibotics running threw me to prevent infection forming since the bone was exposed to air.
Also i havent received in pt just yet they said it was best to wait until it was completely fused...
Geeze I could kick myself too ..I missed my drs appointment today , now ive have got to wait until july the 11th for my xray...

Well - there is definately other options that they could look into for helping the fusion. Be sure and don't miss the next appt!!!
I'll be waiting on the 11th for a post on your latest xray results!

Hey here is my update..Everything has consolidated except a chip of the bone in the front..Ive got to go through a 6 week p.t therpy 3times a week which is going to include : therapeutic exercise program, gait training, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, massage/soft tissue mobilization, improve gait ambulation, increase strength, increase ROM and pain relief. Then maybe i can walk again..yay
Also they would like to see me back at the drs office in 4 months and if everything is looking good and going well then i will be released...
One thing that bothered me was I asked if there was a chance of my leg snapping back into since a chip of it wasnt fused..The Dr said no..lord i hope she knows what she is talking about.. take care : )

Oh - that sounds great! A bone chip is just something we sometimes have to deal with - depends on whether it is free-floating or not.
The PT will help if you take it seriously.
And as for your bone breaking in the same spot - typically it will NEVER break in the same spot unless you are dealing with a bone disease. A break from an accident will actually be stonger than the rest of your bones. It's the nature of the way the bone heals itself.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
