View Full Version : HIV transmission...

New to forum, so bear with me if I'm asking a question which has been asked 1,000 times before :)

Recently had unprotected sex with a 21 year old female who was on her period....really stupid, I know. She later claims that she's slept with 25 different men, but only three without condoms. Also, she got tested for HIV in september and her tests came back negative. She's only slept with one man since (a boyfriend), and never used condoms.

When should I get tested?
Any idea how likely it is that I'm positive?

I've heard that female to male transmission is low, BUT she was menstruating.

I'm an anxious person to begin with, and this really bad decision is just exasperating things.

Well, if you believe that her tests came back negative, although she's slept with one person since and didn't use condoms, then to be safe and to reduce your anxiety, you probably should be tested at three months after the contact.

Whether or not your positive or negative will only be determined by the tests.

For those of us who are anxious, hypochodriacal, and intense, it never ceases to amaze me why we do this to ourselves. A friend of mine once wrote (I think it comes for the "Course In Miracles") "we never get enough of that which we don't need." I swear, everytime I had an encounter, within hours of the encounted, I was absolutely sure that I had "really done it this time" and that "I deserved everything that was coming to me (all bad, of course).

Hang in there, don't look on the internet for symptoms, and get tested. chris

The best thing for you to do is get tested. Try not to dwell on her past history etc etc, because what's done is done. Since she said she's been tested, try to focus on that for now. As far as statisitcs go, every person who sleeps with someone who is HIV infected without protection has a 1/500 chance of getting it themselves. Thats not to say you can sleep w someone 500 times and get it once, it just shows you that although HIV does exsist, and many people have it, it isn't something as easily accessible as say, chlamydia or gonorehha. And yes, males are less likely to become HIV+ then females, but that doesn't mean thier invincible. Let us know what you decide to do, but getting tested at three months is the best solution.
