I have wanted a nose job since middle school! Now I'm 22 and am actually thinking of going through with it. I need lots of info, help! Is closed or open better/outpatient or hospital based??

I got mine done outpatient. I wasn't even completely put asleep. It was only painful for a few minutes at the end. All in all, I'm so happy I did it, the pain is minimal, the healing was super speedy and it was much easier than imagined.

Go on as many consultations as you can to get a feel for what different doctors tell you. Make sure you are comfortable with them. Some say open some say closed. I think closed is done more b/c it's speedy recovery with minimal swelling while open takes longer to heal but more accurate results as far as sculpting the tip goes. All in all I think everybody's nose is different and no matter what anyone says about any doctor it depends on what your bringing to him or her. I mean if someone goes into an operating room with a huge nose, many problems etc. they might not get as good as a result from a certain doctor as someone with a slight bump ya know? That's why it's important for you to do as much research as possible. Also generally you are put out during the procedure which is really no big deal and it doesn't last long.

Sorry to disagree, but I feel it's just the opposite: the worse a nose is before going in to a primary rhinoplasty, the BETTER it usually comes out. People who go in with "slight" problems, small hump removal etc., are usually the ones who end up needing revisions. Quite a few surgeons told me it's actually easier to fix the bigger things than to do small detail oriented "tweaking", because the bigger the nose, the greater the room for error. Good luck.

Definitely go to at least 3 consultations with different doctors. Don't go for the 'deal' as far as money goes. You'll end up spending MUCH more in the end fixing the mistakes of the first surgeon! Some of the revisions can run as high as $20,000!!! It's much more difficult to correct a nose that has already been operated on. As far as open or closed go,, you really just need to talk to your PS about what he/she thinks is a better option for you as far as desired results go and what they can accomplish with both. Nose sugery isn't an exact science! Don't go in with extremely high expectations. But, do expect to be much happy a year post-op VS. without going through with the surgery at all. There is a high rate of revision that goes alont with rhinoplasty. Some people will NEVER be happy with their nose, no matter what!
