Ever since I've hit the menopause years I have these symptoms and would like some advice. Sometimes I wonder if there is something else wrong, the symptoms are so severe! Encouragement, advice would be appreciated.

First, the symptoms:

1. Weight gain, a huge one (and yes, I've had my thyroid checked and am on meds for that; it was low). The weight does not go down, no matter how much I exercise, no matter what I eat. I have done everything: watched carbs, eaten several times a day, eaten small meals, whatever.

2. Constipation. Once menopause started, the regularity stopped. I drink tons of water, eat lots of fiber and still...constipation

3. WOrst of all, the sweats! At night, i am drenched and miserable, no matter how cold the house is. Our air conditioning bills are ridiculous.

Is this normal? I am on a bit of Xanax because I am also anxious (is this normal)? but I'm on a very low dosage because it makes me too sleepy. I am on Budiprion (Wellbutrin) too. Perhaps this has something to do with no weight loss? Help!

Jcorn, I was told that Wellbutrin is suppose to help with weightloss, although for some reason it's having the opposite effect on me. I've been on Wellbutrin XL for several month. I just figure that my hormone imbalance plus taking birth control pills to help with the perimenopausal symptoms counteracts any weightloss possibility...but it's not impossible. I've posted before about several of my postmenopausal co-workers who have lost ALOT of weight on various low carb. diets...and most important they have kept the weight off for the last 2 years. They give me hope, because I believe that I'm rapidly approaching the post-zone :). My mother and sister in laws have also been able to shed those pounds. Be encouraged, because it's possible.

The night sweats are my constant bed companion nowadays, so maybe someone else can give us some suggests and encouragement in that area.

Jcorn,

Me again. I just posted to you under your post on the For Molly thread. I did not see this before I wrote that. Sorry!! I am glad you posted a separate post with the symptoms.

What you are describing is so much like what I have felt too.. as far as the nightsweats and the intestinal stuff although I did not have consitipation. I am more stable now with my symptoms but it fluctuates as that is how it is when our hormones are fluctuating.

The anxiety is my worst problem and I too take xanax at times.

Hang in there and keep posting and reading as it helps to know one is not alone in this.
