Hello,
I had a LEEP procedure in 12/2004 for CIN II. My first PAP in March 2005 showed ASCUS, and the area where the LEEP was done was red still. I just had my second PAP last week, and this time my doctor called it cervical ectropion, and said that the columnar cells of the inner cervix have grown out onto the outer cervix where the LEEP was done. I should get my PAP results sometime this week. Has anyone experienced this? From my little bit of searching online, it seems that cervical ectropion is somewhat a normal variation for teens and pregnant women (both of which I am not). It concerns me that my cervix hasn't healed appropriately after the LEEP. Any advice would be appreciated! Hope my fellow LEEPers from 12/2004 are doing well. I haven't been on here in awhile.

hello-
I have never heard of this. But I will do some research on it because I am having some problems since my leep. I am going in for my first pap after the leep July 7th and have a ton of questions for my doc. I will ask my doc what this is? Have you had any side effects after your leep? I have had some that I am concerned about for example I have had painful intercourse since my leep and some other things so I am very worried that something may be wrong. My results of the leep did not come back as I wished. She said they did not detect any dsyplasia and that it may have been burnt under the leep. I went in with moderate.

hi tpagm,
I hope your first pap comes back OK. When did you have your Leep? It's been a little over 6 months for me, and I feel like things haven't been quite the same since mine as well. I have had painful intercourse, spotting between periods, and then this ectropion that the doctor mentioned when I had my pap last week. Please let me know if you find out anything.
Take care

wow, sounds like we are going through the same thing. I actually have not had spotting between periods but I have had a constant discharge. It is clear and mucousy (not to be gross). But I looked up ectropion on the internet and they said that is a definite side effect. So if I am to guess this is what I probably have too. My doctor knows I have been having some troubles cause I called the other week about the painful intercourse. They told me I can come in but with my work schedule and my appointment being in about two weeks I have just decided to wait. I will let you know what she says when I go in. I had my leep in march and things are definitely not right for me. Someone did tell me on another post I sent out that she had painful intercourse and things weren't right for her for a couple months.

Thanks for looking that up... so it said that ectropion was a side effect of the LEEP? It worries me that the columnar cells of the inner cervix have grown onto the outer part. It seems like they would be more vulnerable to the HPV that makes the outer layer dysplastic. I have been worried since last Wednesday when he told me that it was there. I should get the results of my pap smear soon (he always mails the lab report to me about a week after) in the mail. I will let you know what it ends up reading. The first pap back in march it just looked red. Now the same area he is calling "ectropion". I have had discharge, too. The same as you described. Sometimes so much that I feel like i need to be wearing a panty liner all the time. I'll keep you in my prayers. Thanks for writing!

Well, it didn't say it can be from the leep. It says that women get it though for different reasons IE: teenage girls about to start her period or women who are pregnant get it. Other woman also get it for different reasons but they did pinpoint how they get it. I too at times feel as though I need a panty liner...the major side effect did say a constant mucous discharge and red cervix.
Please let me know how your results go!!
I'll also keep you in my prayers!!
