hello ladies,
I have had what is sometimes called a yeast infection, although I know I have candida. I had it in my ears and eyes also for 4 months. I have every symptom there is and you all know what I mean. To make a long story short I could not get rid of it with "yeast away" herbs, diet etc. so I finally gave in and went to a Doctor, could not stand the itching scabs on the eyes, etc. He prescribed flagyl (7 days) and diflucan (1). It almost went away so I called for a refill and he said NO, I need to go to a gyn. Let me explain I have no insurance so that is out of the question, I could barely scrape together the money to go to him. So I guess I am asking if anyone has any suggestion for me other than suffer.
Thanks ladies

I would try to go to the gyne and try to make a financial deal with her or him. You really need to finish the treatment with her if it's vaginal especially. I don't kno wwhy your internist wouldn't finish the treatment.

There is a tea tree oil 'suppository that I have gotten at the healthfood store that is very good for vaginal yeast infections. Seems to me that with the drugs prescribed, it sometimes comes back worse. Probiotics every day and yogurt helps too.

I agree with Debra. Probiotics. WHen I hit menopause I had recurring yeast infections. I begain eating yogurt and taking acidopholus everyday. I haven't had a yeast infection since. You can also use plain yogurt (make sue in contains live cultures) as a suppository also. I keep one of the old applicators on hand just in case. Plain yogurt is better to eat, as it contains no sugar, which yeast thrive on. You can add your own things to it..I add fruit & nuts and it's delicious.

If you have a vaginal yeast infection, go to a drugstore to find a small bulb-syringe or a syringe for dental-type irrigation. You don't need a ton of water to deal with this.
Take some hydrogen peroxide and dilute it by at least 1/2 so a 1-1 ratio or at least a 1 part-2 part-water ratio. Use this solution as a semi-douche...not a true douche with a huge amount of water pressured into your vagina. You should feel almost immediate relief. If you feel anything coming back, you may want to do it again the next day (morning or evening, makes no difference). On the 3rd day, you may want to do a diluted vinegar douche.
This should be it....rid of it.
You can use a cotton ball and apply a dilute solution of hydrogen peroxide to your eye-lid or anywhere else you think you have yeast.
I still strongly urge you to determine if you have diabetes....you may not, but as diabetes is a much more serious condition than yeast, I'd just want to rule it out myself if it were happening to me.

Good luck!

thanks to everyone! This is the first one that I have ever had even tho 15 yrs. ago a doctor told me I had candida. This is just awful. I have been tested for diabetes and it came back negative. The flagyl did not do any good after I quit it so I am back to the herbal "yeast away" and diet. Please excuse me but the itching arouns my rectum has left scabs and also my eyes. My ears drain like crazy. I will indeed try the peroxide and was also told to try boric acid and baking soda douches. What do you think of those?
once again thanks

baking soda will be no good...it neutralizes acid and you need an acidic flora to prevent further yeast. Boric acid is supposed to work, but why spend money on expensive stuff when peroxide is so much easier and less toxic (IMHO).
Make sure to dilute the peroxide.

thanks angelkitten for the info. I would much rather use peroxide than boric acid anyday. I know it is used for some things but it just sounds too harsh and I certainly don't need any more problems. This has been hell, to have my eyes and ears infected too.

I have a lot of experience with vaginal infections so here is my 2 cents.

I am confused as to why the doctor prescribed Flagyl for you if what you have is a yeast infection. Diflucan is for yeast infection. But Flagyl is for trichomonas or bacterial vaginosis or intestinal parasites. Perhaps you had a mixed infection?? This medication will worsen a yeast infection as it is an antibioitic. Did he test you at all??? Perhaps a wet smear or a pap smear or a culture???? Did he examine you down there??? What was the nature of your examination??? It is important to know what type of vaginal infection you are treating because the treatment for one will make the other type worse.

I would not resort to any douching until you can get a definitive diagnosis. Douching will skew any test results. Also if you really believe this is a yeast infection, do not take any hot baths. Yeast will thrive in heat and moisture and that is what a hot bath is. Yeast means your vaginal PH is too alkaline. Baking soda will make your PH more alkaline. If it is yeast (and again because of the prescription for Flagyl I am not sure here), the best douche to use would consist of plain vinegar and water which would acidify the vagina and retard fungal growth.

I also think the herbal yeast remedy is a waste. Just because you had a yeast infection 15 years ago doesn't mean that is what you have now. Itching and burning down there can be caused by scores of things but most women assume it is yeast.

If your internist is telling you to go to a GYN, it is because this condition is out of his league. In light of your symptoms, if he did not perform a pap smear, you are long overdue for one and that test could reveal the true source of the problem. Before you do any more self care, get a definitive diagnosis, at least for the vaginal/anal end of it.

I agree with another post that suggested you come up with some sort of financial arrangement. Good luck and keep us posted as to your condition.

Sorry he also had me buy 1 dose of diflucan. He said the flagyl was to maybe catch anything else. I have not been sexually active for 14 years ( real bad experience) so STD is not an option. No he did not take a culture or speciman
All he did was talk to me but did agree he thought it was yeast because I also have it around my eyes and in my ears. Because of no insurance they don't want to do anything. There is no burning, only when i urinate because the skin is inflamed. I have had bladder infections and I know I don't have one now. I can not afford to go to a GYN and Doctors in this area will not take payments. I have a 26 year old daughter with cancer and diabetes and had to take out a loan just for her to have surgery for the cancer and radiation so I have been aound the block a time or two with the medical field. we live in idaho and it is ranked in the lowest 10 for medical assistance. I am grasping at straws just trying to get thru this so bear with me.
Thanks to all

BV is even more common than yeast but many women are asymptomatic so are not treated. The peroxide would get rid of this as well. Many people use a dilute solution as an oral rinse for gum health.
Just my opinion.
I agree that a doc visit is always the first course of action. Maybe there are some free clinics or low-income clinics that can help you. Short of that, I'd try the peroxide.

Good luck.

What is BV? I hope you took the flagyl before the dufican. Cause taking them together would not done a thing. Cause flagly causes yeast. I thought I had yeast once and was bacteria vaginitis and was put on an antiobiotic. I itched and burned down there with a white discharge. Thought it was yeast and it wasn't.
Its hard to get medical help when your in need. and no insurance. I hope your daughter is doing alright.

BV is Bacterial Vaginosis

i took both of them together!! Keep in mind I did not know what this was and I am 51 years old. The doctor didn't say anything either about dosage when or where. I have had it off and on since FEB. but this time it infected my eyes, flaky dry welts all around my eyes and my ears completely plug up during the night. I believe it even got into my intestines because i was so sick all the time. I could go on and on about knowing in my heart it is candida, 90% of the symptoms i have and they have gotten better since I started the : yeast away" The lower itching is awful and I hope it goes away soon. I have tried the peroxide and will continue to do so every few days.
Any info is appreciated. Not having insurance or the funds is not a fun game when you can't go to the doctor.

FYI, the boric acid someone mentioned is not as harsh at it sounds. There is an eye wash you can buy over the counter (sorry, can't think of the name) and it has boric acid in it. It is very soothing for the eyes...and maybe it would help with the eye part of the problem.
