I have a 12 month old son who has blocked tear ducts with frequent eye infections. He was scheduled to have surgery today which was cancelled at the last possible moment. My question is, is there anyone who has had success with just the eye massages?

My youngest had trouble with one of her eyes. When I was on vacation a couple of years back, her eye was so incredibly infected I decided to go to the doctors. The man took one look at my child, and then took his thumb and made one smooth move from the outside of her eye towards the tearduct and got out a lot of yuck. My child screamed, had a terribly black eye for weeks but never had any trouble again! Can't refer you to this doctor as I didn't speak his language really LOL.
I won't advise to do this at home, but it did do the trick!

My neices have all inherited this problem from their father's side; no tear ducts. The eldest did have to have surgery but the younger ones have escaped that with the odd bad infection now and then. They will always have some problems but they are lessened as they get older. The elder two have very little trouble now but the youngest was home sick with it a few days ago.

Yes. My little one has had it twice and both times the massages cured the problem in 2 days. I did nothing else.

My first son had it when he was 2 months old and I was told to rub his eyes (where the tear duct is) gently in circles a couple of times a day. It did take a few months to clear up but by the time he was 6 months old it was gone. He is now 5 years old and has never had another problem with them.

Hello, I know this post is pretty old but I was curious what happened next.
My story is exactly like yours. Daughter will be 1 next week and shes had 3 infections already. We have the surgery scheduled April 17, but I dont want to go thru with it if its not necessary. So many people have told me she would outgrow it.

I had the same problem with my daughter from the time my DD was 2 weeks old I was so tore up over this because I had to constantly clean the goop out of her eye and it was always all red, I took her to her regular dr who then sent her to a specialist because I kept harping on it he told me to keep applying pressure on a downward motion with a warm wash cloth from the top of her nose and down because thats actually where the blockage is I kept doing it and didnt see any results that I wanted to he set her up for the surgery to unblock them when she was 15mo and do you know two days before the surgery the little brats duck opened up lol I think I scared it out of her.. so be patient and work with it it might just fix itself.
