my aunt who is about 50 years old has had numbness on the right side of her face down to her leg for a couple of weeks now...no vision problems, she has had migraines since she was young on and off......

here's what the dr. found:
In her neck and back, they are several bad discs, degenerative discs, stenosis. The scary thing was hearing that they found a lesion on her brain! the doctor is going to make an appointment for her to see a neurosurgeon.

What could this be? My mother is very worried about her sister...as I can understand......does this sound like MS or does it sound like soemthing else?

Can a lesion just be a lesion and nothing more...not cancerous and not MS related?

Hi boxgirl:

Lesions are, from what I understand not cancerous. It could be MS, but that's not a bad thing. It could be a number of things as well. There are a few diseases out there that mimic MS so closely that she will be put through a lot of test to rule out a number of things.

Please don't worry. She'll be ok even if it is MS. MS sucks, I can vouch for that, but it's not an end of the world problem anymore. There are lots of treatments now a days and if she is 50 and only has 1 lesion and is newly diagnosed with it, that is actually a good thing in the eyes of MS. But, like I said, it may not be MS.

My advice is to go to the facility where she had the MRI done and get a copy of the results and a copy of the scan on CD. She has every right to those by law. She can just tell them she needs them for her doctors appointment.

Keep your chin up, it's going to be ok. Just be there for her and let her know that it's OK.

after taking a second look with the neuro...the dr dx the "lesion" as a tumor and called it a meningioma. Apparantly this type is usually benign but will be removed since it can cause seizures and pressure on the brain from any growth of this tumor.

will know more in July when she goes back to see the specialist.
